Just read that Rd. Hannon stated that LL would likely be off to stud .
I' m quite untutored in the fine points of breeding but I thought nobody would retire a 2 y-o to stud unless they were injured .
How long do they have to wait before he starts covering ?
And would anyone go to such a sire unless they merely wanted a precocious juvenile ?

and a pretty average precocious juvenile at that

Acclamation the new hot thing for Breeders. Very Fashionable sire. Price bound to rise. Demand is more than supply.

End up getting LL to retire for a smaller fee to cover more mares for Rathbarry.

As Ruby said Rathbarry cant keep up with the demand plus another son of Acclamation who retired at two aint doing half bad at the moment is he!

To answer you questions he starts covering in April/May and the market isnt all the rich end, majority of owners are on a lower budget and want precious two year olds just ask 95% of  Richard Hannons owners

Didn't Hannon do the same thing with another decent 2yo last year or the year before? The rationale was something along the lines that the horse lacked the scope to be as good (let alone better) at 3 so they packed him off to stud.

Zebedee I think.

Dark Angel. Was really a pretty average 2-y-o by top-class standards. But the " commercial" breeders were sweet on him and it paid off.
Disaster for the future.

Zebedee was the horse I was trying to recall (cheers 3foot) but as SS says, the same thing happened with Dark Angel too.

hre was the coolemore 2yo retired to stud....

That appeared to be desparation as they had a full book for George Washington. I fear precocious sprinting 2-y-os who aren`t really that good will be flocking to stud in the future.       Sad

HRE retired because GW was infertile so they had to replace the full book with Danehill blood or lose customers.
Its a good gamble by Rathbarry the demand is there with Acclamation as I have said earlier another son of Acclamation has 21 winners in the first season sires list this year, now look at all the horses under Dark Angel who won multiple Group ones and dont have anyway close to that number.  Zeebdee been a son of Invincible Spirit another in-demand 2 year old sire done his job on the track no point running him if he aint going win races as a 3 year old

It`s hardly going to improve the breed in the long run.
I was aware that The Tetrarch never ran past 2 but he was easily the outstanding 2-y-o of his generation and apparently was meant to run at 3 but was injured and didn`t go to stud till 4. Moreover though he is thought of as a speed influence because of his daughter Mumtaz Mahal 3 of his sons won The Leger.
Teofilo was a similar example.

Very interesting thread and responses - I consider myself very knowledgeable in most ares of racing but don't know the ins and outs of the breeding game. I was struggling to see who would send their mare to such an average juvenile but it makes more sense having read the answers.

zebedee was pretty much unbeaten tho, not likr LL!! zeb only had one bad run, every other ime he destroyed the ipposition! a joy to watchbut not a horse id particulary was for breeding purposes!

Monsieur Chevalier must be pissed off

Todays results at book 2 and the overall demand for Acclamation at the sale shows you why Rathbarry were so eager to snap up one of his sons asap.
