Newmarket: Emphasise nothing even vaguely official but can report speculation rising Ryan Moore to join Aidan O'Brien as no.1 jockey, 2012

Anaglog ,I wonder if he is not a little relieved not to get it.
There must be an awful lot of pressure on the Ballydoyle top-jock.

Why would you feel sorry for Seamie anaglogs? he's been for years operating as an understudy this year is the first year they never had an actual No.1 jockey.
heffernan will still have one of the best jobs in racing.
Report therobster27 • October 9, 2011 11:11 AM BST
Agree with you silvergreaser, Heffernan a modern day Willie Ryan, who was an excellent second jockey for Henry Cecil in his hay day, and still rode plenty of big winners regardless of the presence of Pat Ederry / Fallon when riding at the top of their game.

Is this rumour true?

If so, smart move by Ballydoyle holding out for a season without any stable jockey.

Is Moore aware of why Murtagh, Kinane and Spencer all left.......is he likely to last more than 2-3 seasons.
Report neill d • October 9, 2011 1:31 PM BST
I don't think he'll be there every day tbh as that might be the reason the others left, I think he'll uphold the link with Stoute as well, i could even see Stoute getting extra horses from Coolmore.

If true, really endorses Moore's credentials as the best jockey riding, UK or Ireland. Number one to the two leading trainers either side of the Irish Sea....similiar to Ruby Walsh.
Report whodareswins • October 9, 2011 1:45 PM BST
Not including yesterday.  60% win rate outside Ireland this year at an SP 4/1 or less sounds good.  In Ireland not so impressive 4 from 13 with losers at 4/9; 8/13; 5/6:  Anything above 4/1 1 from 15 anywhere room for improvement there.  Colm and Seammie still in with a chance on their own patch, and on the more hopeful than sure ones.

Independent.ie

As the Flat season begins to wind towards its conclusion, the rumour mill regarding the vacant stable jockey position at Ballydoyle was re-ignited over the weekend.

Nearly a year on from Johnny Murtagh's exit, the situation remains fluid, yet results in the interim hardly point to a desperate need for Aidan O'Brien to fill the position.

In one respect, not least with his son Joseph endeavouring to make the most of what in all probability will be a short career on the Flat, it has suited O'Brien to adopt an 'a la carte' approach. And the talented teenager hasn't been the only one to benefit, with Seamie Heffernan and Colm O'Donoghue also filling in with aplomb.

Still, the conjecture was bound to resurface. Inevitably, Ryan Moore is the man alleged to be on the verge of being appointed.

If Heffernan or O'Donoghue were ever going to get the gig, they would have done so by now. Jamie Spencer, despite his renewed links with O'Brien, isn't obviously being courted by his old boss, while Kieren Fallon's Epsom Derby debacle did for him.

Moore was unfortunate to get injured mid-season, but it is patently clear at this stage that he is O'Brien's preferred choice.

Predictably enough, on Saturday O'Brien dismissed the suggestion of his appointment for 2012 as "just speculation", and Moore, who is well settled with a young family in England, did rule himself out of the job a year ago when he was, according to many reports, the only one offered it.

However, things change. For one, Moore has now got a taste of what working with O'Brien and riding for such a high-profile conglomerate might be like, and he wouldn't be human if his appetite wasn't whetted by Ballydoyle's equine resources.

More significantly, maybe, his boss Michael Stoute has had a miserable year, and possesses few juvenile prospects to instil hope of a prompt resurgence. For a rider of Moore's immense stature, the grass must seem distinctly greener on the other side.

Crucially, in the midst of another fine campaign, Ballydoyle's two-year-olds are a promising collective.

On Saturday, Crusade and Wading enhanced their reputations with commanding performances at Newmarket, and Homecoming Queen did likewise at The Curragh yesterday, all further grist to the mill if O'Brien really is trying to woo Moore.

When you factor in the likes of Classic favourites Maybe and Camelot, not to mention older horses such as So You Think, it's easy to see why some feel it's simply a question of when Ryan Moore agrees to give O'Brien first call on his services.

RYAN MOORE, the three-time champion jockey who has missed a large part of the 2011 season due to an injury, has reportedly confirmed that he will be riding as stable jockey for Aidan O'Brien next season.

Rumours that Moore would leave Sir Michael Stoute for Ireland began this time last year, with several big race successes throughout the year adding fuel to the fire.

Now it is reported in The Independent that: "Ryan Moore has confirmed his intention to leave Sir Michael Stoute to ride as stable jockey to Aidan O'Brien next season."

Agree about "The Enforcer" - should be riding at one of the top stables.
Report Stake & Chips • October 14, 2011 9:25 AM BST
Wouldn't mind some of that 12/1 De Souza

Cant wait to see him being interviewed about it and how economical he will be with his words.

Come to think of it at the moment i can't see an Irish jockey in too much of a rush to ride in England with the current whip rules. I thought SDS might be fancied for it but i think to be champion jockey it would be a bad move at the moment.

What a load of BS...The world and his wife knows he's gone so why not just admit it.

Ryan Moore's representatives have played down speculation that he is set to be appointed as stable jockey to Aidan O'Brien.

A national newspaper report claims he has notified current employer Sir Michael Stoute of his intention to leave Newmarket for the Ballydoyle job.

However, Johnno Spencer, Moore's commercial agent, has tweeted: "Subject to speculation in a national newspaper today, Ryan Moore has NOT signed as the new Ballydoyle stable jockey."

A spokeswoman for Spence added: "He has not signed for Ballydoyle and the rumours are not true.

"He will be remaining in Newmarket, as far as we are aware, for the foreseeable future.

"Johnno spoke to Ryan this morning."
