Worst draw, made it work like no jockey ever has or could. Simply superb. Done my dough on Colour Vision, but it's hard to care when you see a ride of that quality from Frankie.

I fancied this but was put off by the draw, I am an idiot!
great ride, the only way he was going to win was by getting prominent early on, taking the middle ground after that was a masterstroke. He really is a true great, better than any of the younger generation even now

said in his Daily Mirror column today first time he's ridden her, and he's been picking the brains of Sophie Doyle and Franny Norton, if she can overcome the draw she's got a chance.......
Brilliant ride and Dettori at his very best.

The trouble is with these kind of rides is that they are geniuses when they win and idiots when they are beaten, even when the winning/losing distance is a short one either way. I'm not so sure it was anything special and the horse might well have won anyway if he had him with the others but because they won and add in the media falling over themselves as far as Dettori is concerned and suddenly it get blow up as 10x more significant.
Is the draw really that significant over 2m 2f? Dettori's horse was drawn 36 and the 2nd was drawn in 2. I'm not convince he rode to his draw anyway as he seemed to start coming across to the rail almost as soon as the stalls opened but it was still a very good front running ride but I just don't feel the draw or the route he took had as much significance as some would have you believe. By the latter stages of the race he was with the main pack anyway and those tracking behind him were running on the same ground but clearly were not good enough to win anyway.

It had everything. Skill, judgement, preparation, timing and confidence. Beautiful to watch, I didn't have a bet in the race but I was cheering as he won.

Someone teach denathorn to make up his or her own mind instead of having the media pundits do it for him/her.
There was no pace on early which you wouldn't really expect with a 2m 2f flat race and by not really riding to his draw then he was able to bag the rail anyway....or is that where the better ground was suppose to have been, on the rail? He only went wide for a while a good few furlongs later in the race but as I've previously said he then joined the main pack again and those in behind him were running on the same ground as him too, but they just weren't good enough and by the time he's finishing the race he's only a few horses widths off the rail anyway......or is that where the better ground is supposed to be?
As for the draw, it's not as if there's a turn soon after the start of anything where the ones drawn wide are at a big disadvantage and so if they have to edge over they can do this gradually anyway, as this is 2m 2f over the expanses of Newmarket and not somewhere like Chester over 5f. Kazbow was in 35 and was up with the pace for much of the race too but again clearly wasn't good enough, 3 of the last 4 finishers were drawn in the 30s and yet the winner was too and the 5th was drawn in 29 so it seemed to make very little difference over the extreme trip and was more about the ability of the horses involved.
When looking at the history of the draw, last year's winner was in 3, the year before in 12 and the year before that in 25 although I think I'm right in saying that even the winner in stall 3 would have been out wide due to the recent change to the way they number the stalls now anyway. Detroit City, Sergeant Cecil, Landing Light and Miss Fara are all recent winners drawn in single number stalls, with the last named two both being draw in stall 1, which unless I've got this wrong would at that time be the farthest off the rail and equivalent to being drawn highest for today's race.

The "which you wouldn't really expect" part I could have worded better by the way, meaning there was no pace on which you wouldn't really expect (there to be) with a 2m 2f race.....

I agree denathorn but I'm a patience kind of bloke so I always try to find the time, hope you found it helpful.
Just out of interest though, what part of my post was inaccurate?
Cheers Facts for your support.
