hello pat
5 turned up we refused to bet,the end result was the punters were up in arms with the management, they wanted bookmakers not the tote ,every punter understood why we did it,in the end the management asked us to stay ,however as 2 had already left the other 3 refused to bet,we are all getting walked over at the moment,i doubt nothing will come off it, but at least we got 5 books agreeing and it was nice to see the punters fully behind us. |

By:
Jimnast
Good to see a body of books standing together and no one breaking ranks ONWARDS AND UPWARDS |
By:
thank you yummy i dont know if your familar with the game or not,but one lad had just spent a lot of money on buying pick 1 and he was happy to make a stand today, lets hope more bookmakers will think a bit about the future, rather than just today.
By:
i may appear ignorant lads but whats happened and why?
By:
tweedle
the racecourse were going to open the gate from the silver into tatts at 330 at no extra cost for the silver ring punters, meaning the beef burger man the books and the sweet kiosk would be left with no custormers. |
By:
pete thats good to here fair to you all its a disgrace the way we treated in that ring
By:
where was it stated that was what the management were going to do
By:
at the entrance where they pay to get in sinfin, also a notice on the gates once they were in.
By:
then thats more of a disgrace i phoned them last week asking why they were not opening last weekend with the forecast of a red hot weekend on pay weekend for most people it wud of been packed and i was told that the ring does not open in winter say no more

I echo Jimnast's sentiments, it was good to see the books in agreement. Not sure why the books weren't informed of this to allow them to make an informed decision on whether to attend or not. It's not really on for bookmakers to only find out about this when they get through the gate, especially if you had come as far as from the Northwest say.
Well done to the punters who were the losers in this, at least until the gates to tatts would have been opened. The ones that I spoke to were supportive; as I was leaving a growing group were asking for their money back. |
By:
What would be the likely reasoning for allowing them through after The Dewhurst & before The Cesarewitch ?
This sport is going more barking mad every day , are they trying to make it extinct. |
By:
jimnast glad to see you all stuck together well done, hope it works out for you,we need sliver rings

By:
thank you dr atkins, yesterday has gone now,its where we go from here, the great bonus for racecourse bookmakers yesterday was how disgruntled the paying public was because they had no choice but to bet with the tote, and as muldvap says there were punters wanting refunds.
talks are still going on with jockey club racecourses about our future,i dont know if yesterday will make them realise just a little what the public wont,on the down side i also saw the pure greed off somebody we are depending on so the hope i use to have isnt so strong anymore. |
By:
why didn't you have faith in the punters staying where they were
By:
good morning swift
thats a very fair question and to be honest i am pretty sure most of them would have,in fact the ones who spoke to the books said they had no plans to go in tatts.but there is a point of principle here,we were not informed before hand which we could then have decided if it was worth going to newmarket or not,and what next not just for newmarket but for other courses aswell, |
By:
also what about the punters who paid full wack in tatts it isnt really fair on them is it ?
By:
morning jimnast
yes I basically agree with what you are saying racecourse attendances are falling though and management have to try to cope with that somehow |
By:
swift from what some of the punters in the silver ring were saying i think newmarket took a big backward step ,they wanted there money back and wont be coming back.
from what i saw yesterday newmarket panicked, the pre sales were well down in tatts by letting a few extra in half way through the day would appear to swell the gate.i have been going to champions day for a long time as a punter up till i first bet there 2 years ago, never have i seen it so quiet,a lot of those newmarket get in on champions day have voted with there feet they have never been happy about the champion stakes been moved,i think next year will be even quieter. |
By:
i agree with a post i saw a while ago[think it was ftm]about racecources shooting them selves in the foot..though ot would be the first time ive agreed with ftm.
look at admission prices,he highlighted punchestowns admission policy this season[check it out on their website!!]and the stance cheltenham are taking....think punchestowns about 15euro and chelt as we know are 60pounds for club. Jimnast,im pleased you and the people in the silver ring had a little victory. |

Bought tickets for Premier enclosure to watch Peter Andre last August for 2 adults and 2 children cost me £84 in advance had to pay for children,A few friends were going in Family enclosure taking picnic, so as nice day we decided we would go in Family enclosure instead using our Premier badges.they would not let us in family, said was full so we had to take our picnis back to car and eat them before they let us in premier kids were crying because all there friends were in family. We walked back up to family and they were letting people pay to get in so was not full. For the sake of the kids we paid another £60 for all of us to go in there needless to say we will not be going back.

By:
habin67,
A sad story indeed. Absolutely despicable not to allow you into the Family Enclosure having already purchased Premier Enclosure tickets. I would write to:- Stephen Wallis - Managing Director - Newmarket Racecourses Rowley Mile Stands Newmarket, Suffolk CB8 0TF 01638 675 500 |

By:
I had my first experience of Newmarket racecourse last saturday. as it was quiet it was nice. but no big screen and you cant see a thing until last 100 yards. I wont be going back, as I would have been better watching at home. tho why not stick a figure of 8 track in front of the stands on the hill. would be great viewing.
By:
robin i know where your coming from and to have no screen at the hq of brittish racing is disgracefull, however i cant agree about the figure of 8,the big plus about the rowley mile is the quality of racing you get,you wouldnt get it on a figure of 8 course.

the whole problem with newmarket is management which has been anti public for ten years now.
"if they want to come they will . if they don't they don't " tradition did mean they went , now they are or have lost their goodwill lisa hancock upped the prices , cut out all concessions making oap's pay full price 1/the july course keep putting up prices for friday night concerts, racing totally secondary. 2/the silver ring was still available for true racegoers but this year they increased the admission in there to over £20 , thus keeping them away 3/ greene king had a brilliant arrangement with the racecourse management , filling the racecoure but the concessions given to greene king mean't the course got little on admission. but totally disregarded the fact that these racegoers filled their overpriced bars and ate their vastly overpriced food. all now gone these public have now gone and next year will be worse. this management have to all be sacked immediately and a public friendly set of people put in place. it's all about marketing |
