Apparently when the new whip rules come into force that guy we see at the start of races holding the bull whip will no longer be allowed to give recalcitrant horses a tickle on their hind legs to persuade them to jump off with the rest of the field.
What provision, if any, have the BHA made for dealing with such stubbornness? Can I suggest the starter's assistant is provided with a megaphone so he can creep up behind the horse and shout an appropriate order such as "giddyup".
Must admit, saddo, I've been under the impression that Martyn was bed-ridden and housebound. Am I mistaken or has he made a miraculous recovery from his dementia?

Will the number of jockey whip strikes be counted only from the point at which a horse actually crosses the starting line and what about horses playing up on the way down to the start?

Thanks for that dunlaying but I have a full book of supermarket openings to attend at present though I'll try to squeeze in the launch of your new yacht.
I'm sure you can afford my 'celebrity package' deal so if you arrange suitable overnight accommodation I suggest you have a word with my secretary to finalise details.

Plenty more arguments about the Jumps race issue as to whether a horse 'started' the race, or should be deemed a non-runner.
