I can't remember the name of the horse so try to help. Here is what I remember..
1) Ran in or around 1992
2) Southwell specialist running over 2 miles
3) went off like a sprinter, gained a 30 length lead and tried to see the race out from the front and often did.
4) Must have won 12-15 races with those tactics, nothing could keep up with it, standing dish at the track.

Just remember winning shed loads on it, was always a punter friendly genuine horse. Who can remember its name?

Nopes still not got it yet. Read how the horse ran, never seen anything like it or likely too anytime soon.

As posted earlier ...

TEMPERING ran like that

Made all, clear over 3f out, unchallenged

Led, clear 7f out, stride shortened and weakened final furlong, hard ridden and held on well

Led, clear 1m out, ridden over 1f out, unchallenged

Made all, soon well clear, weakened inside final furlong, unchallenged

- and many similar - in it's 22 wins at Southwell

racking my brains, it may be tempering (know I said no earlier). I had it in my mind it began with an S though. Dunno why. But yeah 22 wins sounds about right.

Can anyone remember another horse? I remember tempering but am not convinced thats the one... could be wrong.

Tempering used to be ridden by Steve Wood -

perhaps that is where you are getting the 'S' from.

Sadly, Steve was killed in a fall at Lingfield, when aged just 26.

I can remember that the horse used to have bandaged front legs that exaggerated his running if that helps.

uhh, dunno back then I wasent old enough to bother about trainers. I remember it was one word (so tempering is in the frame) it was not suluk 100%. The horse had a very high knee action, blasted his rivals in the first 3 furlongs over 2miles and often held on. Won a stack load, mostly at southwell.

It probably was tempering... but the name doesent really grab me.

A mile and a half seems like 2 miles - when you are a young punter. Blush
