Neil Munro discusses a trio of ones to watch in-running, including a horse that boasts the dubious honour of a brace of minimum odds defeats...

The truth is we all make mistakes. Whether it's in your personal life, at work or even placing a bet, it has happened to us all. But how many of us make a blunder which costs others over £80,000? For that is how much was matched at 1.01 on Rio's Girl when the normally excellent Stewart Machin called home the wrong horse at Warwick the other day. These things happen, and to give Stewart full credit he did come out and apologise straight away.

Rio's Girl

Rio's Girl becomes one of the few horses to have traded at 1.01 in defeat twice, for she previously traded at 1.01 back in August 2010. That day she was sent off the 5/4 favourite and ran in her usual prominent style which meant that she caught the attention of some in-running backers who thought they were buying money. She was challenged at the furlong pole by Lees Anthem, a horse that at the time had a reputation for not finishing off his races, so backers thought that Rio's Girl was home and hosed. But she faded in the final few yards and was defeated. So she has a couple of 1.01 in-running defeats, for very different reasons. But she is a horse, because of her prominent running style, that trades half her BSP in over half her defeats so becomes a back to lay proposition, as well as putting up a 1.01 offer in case she gets up the hat-trick for whatever reason.

IR betting is becoming stranger by the day. I only put up lays before the race to square off but am amazed and what gets matched and what doesn't......but how you can back based on the commentator is madness.

Yesterday I had three seconds that were not matched at 3/1 IR whilst a horse that had no chance was matched at 1.41! On Sunday I left an IR lay of Sareta to play at 2/1 but it wasn't matched.

Then on Monday I think 5 horses in an 8 runner were matched below Evens!
