I thought that the bha directive of a yr or so ago was that the racecourse could only race if it was GTF at the the absolute worse?
Racing round that karzi on concrete is no fun for anybody.

They deserve no runners and no punters tho I'm sure that there are some horses that like that ground but it's few and far between. No one breeds them any more. If there where Deep Run's and Over The River's rivers now i think Presenting and Montjeu would be away down the list but sadly they are not

Jockeys at Towcester boycotted "Towcester TV" this afternoon, whip ban related.
Appears Towcester watering problem is down to a local hosepipe ban. In asked Robert Bellamy why they could not use water from the lakes in the centre of the course - it seems they are purely decorative and only a foot deep. Eventually Environment Agency allowed three days watering.

Finally the normally dependable Stewart Machin made an uncharacteristic mistake when calling the wrong winner at Warwick on Monday afternoon, Mistaking Rio’s Girl for the very similarly coloured Straboe. I was at Warwick and I can say the professional man that he is Stewart was absolutely shocked and devastated at the mistake he made.
The press room can be the cruellest place at times but even the most cynical hacks, and there were some at Warwick yesterday, were so taken aback at Stewart’s reaction that all offered him words of encouragement and not the extreme micky taking I’m sure he was expecting. The reaction from the guys in the press room indicates the respect we have for Stewart’s commentating.
Of course there was the inevitable verbal diarrhoea being spouted on Betfair, although to be fair it wasn’t as bad as it can be when we get the race mistakes from commentators.
Apparently one punter lost some £38k on Rio’s Girl based of Stewart’s call and many posters were rallying to that punters cause.
Sorry I have no sympathy for the punter at all, indeed I would actually go as far as to say he actually deserves to lose the money.
No commentator, no matter how good he is, is infallible and to rely on a third party when risking such sums of money is insanely stupid.
Also is there not a perverse contradiction here. Stewart is being criticised for mis-identifying two horses, yet the defenders of the punter are not criticising him, yet he too clearly failed to identify the two horses.
No wonder the Betfair forum is considered such a joke.

37 runners today for 7 races. If it was just down to Towcester we would have no racing after about 2 years. Jockeys and trainers should just boycott the place. They are obviously not interested in horse welfare at all and it just shows that their band-wagon jump on the whips issue was a load of horlicks. They obviously have their heads up their asses.

This Oystermaker Chappie sounds like an utter pencil necked twitt.
This place certainly has it's share of nutters and nomarks but can often reflect the general mood of the betting public who really don't have a voice.
For sure the racing press will never reflect the views of some very clued up well meaning punters who know the time of day.
This industry is so insular and he represents the MINORITY that think the game is run as a playground for patronising ponces like him.
I am sure he would happily suck Machins gonads behind the press tent rather than chastise him but then again he would almost certainly find excuses for lamentable rides ro crooked trainers.
Oi you ponce, the betfair forum say fook you and your like, you will never say it as it is and are a purile mug poncing your way through life with your head up your arse.
You have no idea what the real punting public want and for sure Towcester do not provide it.

Riders rebel over Towcester's plans to outlaw use of the whip • Jockeys demand meeting with track officials • On-course TV coverage boycotted over row
Will Hayler at Towcester guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 5 October
The controversial stance over the use of the whip in racing here drew return fire from a number of jockeys on Wednesday, as the row continued over toughened rules due to come into place from next Monday.
Unhappy with comments from Towcester's management that plans remain in place to effectively stop jockeys using the whip by investigating the possibility of staging only hands-and-heels races at the course, riders told officials before the first race that they would refuse to carry out any interviews for the on-course television output.
A deputation of riders later approached the clerk of the course, Robert Bellamy, and demanded to speak to the course's general manager, Kevin Ackerman.
Jockeys including Andrew Thornton, Jimmy McCarthy and Dougie Costello subsequently met with Ackerman for almost an hour, in between races.
"I was pleased to hear their views and to have an opportunity to try and explain our perspective," said Ackerman, who insists that Towcester's position on the whip is based on customer satisfaction rather than a moral crusade or the desire to seek publicity.
"I take issue with the idea that Towcester are trying to put their stamp on racing or dictate to the British Horseracing Authority what should or shouldn't be done.
"We have talked to our racegoers and asked them what they want and we're trying to respond to that demand. These are challenging economic times and we need to do what we can to keep everyone happy.
"We had 3,500 racegoers today and you can't tell me that if no jockey had been allowed to use their whip today, we wouldn't have had as many – and we might well have had more. If the BHA want to use us as a pilot scheme to investigate that further, then that's fine with us."
Ackerman referred to two surveys taken at meetings at the track in May when 500 racegoers were asked whether they would prefer to see the jockeys not using whips. On both occasions, the majority of those questioned answered in the affirmative.
However, a number of jockeys have expressed fears that Towcester's stance is attracting more bad publicity for the sport than good, despite an apparent agreement between the BHA and the Professional Jockeys' Association over the more stringent rules announced last week.
"We told the Towcester management that we thought some of the comments that have been made were inappropriate," said Thornton. "The issue is still at a delicate stage."
Despite an initially positive response to the toughened rules from the likes of prominent riders Tony McCoy and Frankie Dettori, antipathy appears to have increased after a meeting of over 100 jumps jockeys at a BHA seminar at Newbury earlier this week.

This Towcester Whip stance smacks (excuse the pun) of nothing other than self-interest, and publicity - and not in the best interests of racing in general.
Could you imagine a Premiership football club saying that we are only going to allow opposing teams, and ourselves, to play in house slippers - instead of boots - when they come to our ground. - so that nobody will get injured or hurt.
They would get laughed out of the League.
