he can because hes a gutless crawling waste of space, there is clearly no point to his being on the telly, has nothing to say that anyone wants to hear, im no fan of chapman but surely even he would have had to condem saunders for that kind of effort.
Report paganin • October 4, 2011 3:58 PM BST
No choice in a 3 runner race with 30 metres to pull it into!! What rot.
Report Tallywagger. • October 4, 2011 3:59 PM BST
I thought Boycey was OK when he started on ATR.

Nowadays, he is amongst the worst of a very bad bunch.
Report Richie T • October 4, 2011 3:59 PM BST
it is what you would expect from a very poor racing channel.
Sean Boyce is a well known kiss arse cant afford to get sacked who else would employ the knumpty!!!!!
Report southlodge • October 4, 2011 4:03 PM BST
did he not think he was a poker expert for a while [;)]couldt win with a royal flush!!!
Report geoff m • October 4, 2011 4:08 PM BST
They dont call him "Ronseal" Boyce for nothing.
Even thought Dean mckewons rides where o.k until hed been convicted .
Then he went for him with both barre;lls.
Spineless gutless presenter.
Report jmdc • October 4, 2011 4:11 PM BST
To all the above - exactly!  Even posted on here until he got eaten for breakfast.
Report Barton Bank • October 4, 2011 5:36 PM BST
In no other sport are the media so blind to poor performances from the participants. That Sanders ride was probably the equivalent of the Torres missed open goal the other week, but we didn't hear the pundits rushing to his defence.
Report sj • October 4, 2011 5:39 PM BST
please can anyone tell me why(apart from the obvious they dont want to fall off the gravy train) our racing press are so frightened to say anything,is there another reason?
Report dod • October 4, 2011 5:43 PM BST
Litigation
Report Barton Bank • October 4, 2011 5:47 PM BST
I am fairly sure that it would not have been slanderous for Boyce to say something like "Sanders has been outridden by Hughes in a tactical race" - surely this is covered by fair comment. Instead he insults the intelligence of viewers by claiming Seb had little option.
Report dod • October 4, 2011 6:04 PM BST
I agree BB but sj i think was talking in general terms about them not commiting themselves to anything controvertial
Report Rider • October 4, 2011 6:23 PM BST
bb has a point, you watch any other sports and the pundits say what they think and very often disagree between themselves, not in racing, it needs new faces who dont rely on the gravy
Report fawwon • October 4, 2011 6:44 PM BST
Only two days a year the pundits can let rip(as long as the rider is not from the uk of course)
Report Arklearkle • October 4, 2011 6:45 PM BST
I would understand that if ATR or RUK critisize bookmakers they will lose ad revenue and if they critizise trainers and jockeys they wont get the interviews.
Report fawwon • October 4, 2011 6:50 PM BST
The jockey interviews are pretty pointless, stuff like "how does it feel to win the derby?"
I don't think a racing show would lose anything dropping jockey interviews.

And the trainers interviews are even more pointless.
Report fawwon • October 4, 2011 6:52 PM BST
Never get stuff like

"he looks to be carrying a bit of condition"

"yes, we have not had him out of his stable for 2 weeks"
Report penzance • October 4, 2011 6:54 PM BST
yes, that was stable money-we had it right off today!
Report Felipe Toro • October 4, 2011 7:33 PM BST
AOB interviews are pretty much the same each year just different names for the horses
Report TRD.Racing • October 4, 2011 7:38 PM BST
If a footballer has a shocker,Hanson and co will slate him. Time and time again a jockey will have a shocker and the gravy chain merchants will say feck all.

Today Sanders gave that horse a total shocker,he turned a certain winner into a loser and Boyce did not have the bottle to say something that Sanders might not like.

The whole situation is pathetic, nearly all the presenters and pundits are gutless and won't say a word over a bad ride.

Mark Winstanley,I agree is not everyones cup of rosie lee,but when he was on the TV at least he had the balls to comment on a bad ride, which is probably why he is no longer on TV,and that says it all really
Report homefortea • October 4, 2011 8:03 PM BST
Agreed watchit. You get jockeys actually convicted of cheating and they get a short ban and are accepted back into the sport. Then Classic winning trainers give them rides !! The whole sport is corrupt from the bottom up - perhaps that is why we like it so much - we like to think (!) we can spot the triers !! Unfortunately the sport is ultimately doomed as younger people will not bet on it because of so many non-runners (48 decs anyone ?) A long stay on the machines and a first goalscorer bet and they leave the Betting Shops.Betshrek,VCnochancebet and Nobet£3.65 hoover up all the mug money with their TV adverts and racing continues its downward spiral.

so refreshing that a 9 grand    filly stuck it up the coolmorre mob et al in the arc
Report FreedomofSpeech • October 4, 2011 9:04 PM BST
fawwon makes a good point about interviews with trainers and jockeys. i too would not miss them, with the odd exception such as Cecil and Fallon for entertainment value. Racing channels have always been geared around them, particularly ATR, and they think that is what the punter wants to hear. I'd much rather listen to some outspoken punters myself.

i would really like to see a 'Worst Ride of the Week' feature on ATR to go side by side with 'Best Ride of the Week'. A 'Hot Or Not' for racing!
Report jonjo • October 5, 2011 4:02 AM BST
To be fair that ride was one of the worst you'd see on a market leader all season.
Also to be fair, you really shouldn't expect anything in the way of balanced criticism from Sean Boyce about anyone participating in this sport, unless you are a punter, possibly campaigning for a better deal for other punters, then he might do a bit of name calling from his Ivory Tower

Regards

Watering Whinger.

Report thedikler • October 5, 2011 8:36 AM BST
Yes it did look to be quite bad judgement just watched it. Its like they are just taking the mick out of the punters and they know nothings going to be done about it, makes you wonder though if it had been a so called lesser trainer jockey combo would he have had something to say. For example we can't say a word because that will be the end of interviews with cigar smoking handicap king it makes you sick.

I have my tin hat on for what is about to come my way. Hughes was more tactically aware than Saunders in this race. ROUGEMONT has a Group 1 entry in the Racing Post (one of three from Hannons') so the horse is no mug. Before the race he said that Repeater was a free going sort and might not stay. I believe the horse stays alright the way it finished but it did run free in the early part of the race. Hughes knew he was on the better horse, knew it would stay and is a better jockey that Saunders.

timmy1 - absolute rubbish!  The 'missed open goal' analogy is appropriate in this instance, Sanders made an error of judgement by leaving his effort to late - nothing sinister just a rank bad ride.
Report saddo • October 5, 2011 10:36 AM BST
As bad a ride as it was, Hughes deserves much credit. I have not seen a head on, but he looked through his legs 3 out and it seemed to me he was showing a little of the inside to Sanders, tempting him to stay there while he quickened from the front.
