CHELTENHAM Festival winner Cue Card is on target to make his eagerly awaited chasing debut at Chepstow on Saturday, but will require "genuine good ground" according to trainer Colin Tizzard if he is to line up.
Among his rivals in the 2m3f novice chase could be the Paul Nicholls-trained Silviniaco Conti, whose participation is also ground dependent.
"We could do with some rain but if it's genuine good ground there is a very good chance he'll run," said Tizzard. "But if it's very quick we won't take a chance with him.
"I don't know what Cue Card's best trip is, usually a Champion Bumper horse can make up in to a three-miler but he has loads of pace," said Tizzard.
"We'll see after his first few runs and make a decision then. His jumping has never been a problem, he hasn't schooled on grass but he has jumped indoors and he's been brilliant.
"He's always been a good jumper and if the ground's right he'll run," he added.
The ground at Chepstow was described as good on Monday but clerk of the course Keith Ottesen expects the going to ease before the weekend.
He said: "The aim is to provide at least good ground depending on how much rainfall we get."
hope they don't keep messing him about holding him up...ruined a lot of races for him last year...love to see them change tactics and make all with him, i think we would see a marked improvement in performance

18 previous Cheltenham bumper winners, and bar Florida Pearl, none ever cut the mustard over 3m+, hurdles or fences. Three that did actually win at 3m+ Alexander Banquet won once (from 18 starts at 3m+) Pizarro once from 9 starts Cork All Star (a Huntingdon hunter chase)
Just shows how some trainers believe some nonsense. After over 30 years training, Henderson still thinks you win a Grand National with a 2 1/2 miler

Not much between them over hurdles, but well being of stable evident today for Tizzards. The stable tend to score winners in clusters, so I would be hopeful. Don't overlook Coup Royale if it turns up on Saturday, amazing winner at Kempton last time out.

Would have liked to see him given at least one more chance in a competitive handicap hurdle (like the Greatwood) with a jockey on board. Tizzard got there about two furlongs too soon at Cheltenham and then he didn't appear to appreciate the step up in trip at Aintree.
Fingers crossed Tizzard doesn't ruin Royal Guardsman this season.

16:10, Silviniaco Conti Proved a revelation last season. Was very workmanlike at home and took us by surprise when making his debut for us at Bangor on this Saturday last season, winning by 29 lengths. And then he went on to beat Captain Chris by 10 lengths over this course and distance before beating Karabak by seven lengths at Ascot; a staggering improvement in such a short space of time. He had his winning run ended when third in the International but he was only half-a-length behind today's rival Cue Card there, and we were giving him 4lb (you can forget his final hurdle start at Wincanton). I wouldn't read too much into the Cheltenham form as a pointer here though as chasing is obviously a totally different ball game but I am excited by this horse. And if he runs well here, then I have the Rising Stars at Wincanton in mind for him next month. But a word of warning for punters; while he has done lots of schooling and this trip will suit, he is not totally revved up for this and will improve enormously for the run. So while defeat would be slightly disappointing it wouldn't be the end of the world as he has bigger targets further down the line. But as a highly rated hurdler going chasing, we clearly have high hopes for him this season. I just want to see him jump nicely here.

Some timely rain at Chepstow has ensured that the jump season, which traditionally steps up a gear on this weekend, does so on time.
While Paul Nicholls has a lorry-load of runners, most interest will surround the chasing debut of Colin Tizzard's Cue Card.
One of the best novice hurdlers of last season, Cue Card was one of the 'Festival bankers' before finishing a creditable fourth to Al Ferof in the Supreme Novices after pulling hard. At Aintree he had no answers to Spirit Son.
The five-year-old faces just three rivals in the two-mile-three-furlongs novice chase.
But with the Ruby Walsh-ridden Silviniaco Conti among them, it will be no push-over, even though Cue Card beat him over hurdles last autumn.
For the connections of Cue Card, this is the moment for which they have been waiting.
"He's in cracking form and this is what we've been looking forward to doing with him right from the first day we had him," said Tizzard. "He's schooled ever so well at home. There's only four but it's a competitive little race.
"We've beaten Silviniaco Conti before and we're looking forward to taking him on again."
The 121st Velka Pardubicka takes place at Pardubice in the Czech Republic tomorrow without an Irish or British runner.
All eyes will be on Tiumen and his phenomenal 58-year-old jockey Josef Vana, who is missing half his rib cage after a fall in Germany. The horse is going for his third win while Vana is going for his ninth as a trainer and his eighth as a jockey.

CUE CARD may have halved in price for the Arkle Chase after his winning debut over fences at Chepstow on Saturday, but punters were warned on Sunday to think twice about backing him.
The 2010 Weatherbys Champion Bumper winner is quoted at odds as short as 10-1 by some firms, but trainer Colin Tizzard is far from convinced that his star will prove best at two mile. "I wouldn't encourage anyone to back him for the Arkle yet because he might not run in that," said Tizzard.
"There is a two-and-a-half-mile novice and the RSA is only three - you can just see him going round there on the bridle, quickening up off the last bend and leaving them for dead. "The few times we have stepped him up to two and a half, he has looked mighty impressive. There is an awful long way to go and I don't know what trip he really wants. He could be effective from two miles to three miles, but I can't see anypoint in going to three miles yet as he has so much pace."
Cue Card could get an early sight of the Cheltenham fences in a 2m novice chase at the Openmeeting next month.
Tizzard added: "He is a horse we like taking to Cheltenham so there is a distinct possibility that will be the one but it wouldn't hurt him to have a bit more match practice in little novice chases.
"No doubt we will wait for Cheltenham but if there was something a week before which was valuable we might have a look at it."
