Shocked...........a bunch of cyber-criminals, possibly originating in Cambodia, had breached the company's security systems on March 14, 2010. They had subsequently stolen, among other things, 2.28m "encrypted payment card account numbers and details", 3.16m "account user names with encrypted security questions" and 89,744 "account usernames with bank account details".

Indeed, a progress report marked "Betfair Critical Confidential" tells how "the attacker did indeed manage to copy the entire Sportex database" – the one that contains all cardholder details............The theft was so serious that Betfair was forced to inform the UK's Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), the Australian Federal Police and German law enforcement officials. It also notified the UK Gambling Commission and the Maltese Lotteries and Gaming Authority, as well as Royal Bank of Scotland, its "acquiring bank" – the lender responsible for accepting credit and debit card payments made via Betfair.

An "Incident Report to Regulators", dated July 15, 2010, explains that the thieves' haul included "approximately 850,000 unexpired credit card details" – a large number in relation to the company's current 949,000 "active users", or regular gamblers'.

Shocked

No worries....Betfair sorted it out?......What the f'ck are you on about backerman you complacent twonk?!

I'd heard nothing about is this until it was mentioned on another forum this afternoon. Many millions more are still oblivious to the FACT their bank accounts and cards have been dangerously compromised.

Staggering incompetence by Betfair and utterly shameful that they didn't think WE needed to be told about it even though they had to tell SOCA amongst others.

And Jesus wept. Plain

elise

that is the official line, one punter had paid 400,000 in commision over the years, you would think they would honour his bet.
Report elise • October 3, 2011 5:52 PM BST
yes, saw his piece on the telegraph site, but never seen anything either way after that

i can see them not saying if they do pay out so as not to set a public precedent, they probably would pay individuals and sign them to a confidentiality agreement

i think many have facts, that isn't a dig at you. Yet a company with such a brilliant idea and concept has joined the bean counters riding roughshod over client earnest gripes. This security breach is awful and not to go public in order to protect a share issue must be nearly fraudulent as they are hoping to profit or gain a pecuniary through not informing the public over security issues and actual data theft so there is complicit and deceitful behaviour by the directors. Of course PC charge issues confirm the machine cares nowt for the clientele. No wonder liquidity is down, BF being a bastion of fair play have never sought a level playing field for the in running public. The firm lacks credibility and strong erstwhile moral leadership.
