Believe me, those two are the ultimate proffesionals compared to the one and only Mr Thompson

as these commentators annoy you so much, why not watch the races using the mute button?
its obvious you dont need a commentary. |
|

I can put up with Johnson because at least he's accurate.
McKenzie is poor. Very poor. His performance at York on John Smith's Cup day was abysmal. At least on TV you can use the mute button. If racing live the appearance of McKenzie or 'Thommo' in the commentary box will ruin the day. |

By:
mute button argument irrelevant but typical of the uneducated buffoon known as Yo YO to perpetuate that line of muddled thought. In fact jerks like you have made the image of our sport worse.
|
|
By:
why is it irrelevant cant you read the race without commentary.
by the way this jerk is barry dennis, who are you, one of the many anonymous cowards? |
|
By:
I'm slightly confused Bazza. You accuse others of being anonymous, but if you hadn't outed yourself you'ld have been just as anonymous. As it happens, as commentarys go, Lee (for all his histrionics) is very good, as is MJ (FOR ALL THE DECIBELS). I may be accused of living in cloud-cuckoo land; but I think the pictures and sound we get from the racecourses in this country are second to none. Anyone watching Goldikova/Dream Ahead race this afternoon would have to agree... surely?

Why do some of the commentators have to have crappy gimics though?
Simon Holt and Richard Hoiles have got to the very top of their game through just calling races accurately, and telling the story of each race. Drop the gimics. |
|
By:
gimmicks?
gimics? gimmics? |
|
By:
The best don't need gimmicks. I've become increasingly disappointed with MJ, because I used to think he was very good, and didn't need to commentate in any fashion other than straight and factual. Adopting Americanisms for a US audience is ok (I guess), but he's got carried away with it, it seems, and it's getting ridiculous now - ("furlong panels" ffs. When covering French racing the other day he pronounced Tom Tit as Tom Teet; and for him it's now Freddie 'ead who trains Goldikova). Maybe the comms are being told they have to create more of an individual style? - maybe they've seen the success that Tommo has had in life (99% gimmick, 1% commentary), and they're going over to the dark side - maybe most of them are just egotists. Who knows.

Yo Yo ,splendid name and so accurate,I'm hardly anonymous on here. I get banned on a regular basis and use the account of a friend in order to communicate my complaints/praise. You appeared in a depressing programme some years ago and the unfortunate waste of time ended with you blowing your car horn in a boorish ugly manner. I wrote to the Racing Post suggesting that your oafish behaviour was hardly a good advert for our sport. I signed the letter ....Peter Harris.
So,not anon and most certainly not a coward. Peter Harris |
