AHH...

Good old sporting life

Sarafina and So You Think have been handed unfavourable draws for Sunday's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

The pair were disputing favouritism for the big race but have been handed stalls 13 and 14 respectively and only two horses in the last seven races have been placed from double-figure draws.

The full draw is as follows:

1 Hirono D'Amour
2 Danedream
3 Testosterone
4 Galikova
5 Masked Marvel
6 St Nicholas Abbey
7 Reliable Man
8 Workforce
9 Sherata
10 Meandre
11 Snow Fairy
12 Treasure Beach
13 Sarafina
14 So You Think
15 Silver Pond
16 Nakayama Festa

any news on draw for l'abbaye please ?

Meandre wouldn't be in the first six anyway, imho... clever placing and cheeky ride have done v well so far but it's 10lb off the best here

I'd be very worried about any horse in double figure draws, I looked at all the double figure fielded C/D races run quicker than 149 secs available on Raceform Interactive, Zarkava at 8/15 in the Prix Vermeille was the sole winner from 62 runners to be drawn in double figs (and that was stall 10) from an expected 6.4 winners if you sum their s.p. percentage.

This dont look any better than last year to me, so will take workforce e/w although expect it to win easily if it runs
Cheers

The french three year old filly got a very nice draw [;)]

blue square evens draw 1 to 9
               4/5 draw 10 or higher

Reliable Man looks well over-priced at 12/1 given the draw....
Report giggitygiggity • September 30, 2011 12:03 PM BST
draw doesnt make a difference - not a huge field and they run straight for about 5 furlongs
Report worcesterwilly • September 30, 2011 12:04 PM BST
disagree.....draw is vital to get an early pitch as it is often the roughest race in the season.....vital not to be stuck out wide and running many yards further than you need to...
Report giggitygiggity • September 30, 2011 12:18 PM BST
They have 5 furlongs running STRAIGHT so lots of time to get a pitch before bend.

It's preferable to be drawn lower not vital. If you are good enough you will win, just like Sakhee and Dalakhani proved. The draw is not the main factor in getting beat.

Wouldnt be backing anything high in the Abbaye though
Report zilzal1 • September 30, 2011 12:25 PM BST
I wouldnt be that sure Giggy, Abbaye draw stats here

Draw
Horses drawn 1 to 5: 4-6-50
Horses drawn 6 to 10: 2-7-50
Horses drawn 11 to 15: 2-5-49
Horses drawn 16 or higher: 2-2-25
On good or firmer: 4 winners were drawn in stall 16, 13, 12 & 3
On ground softer than good: 6 winners were drawn 3, 7, 5, 8, 20 & 1
It appears that a low draw is favourable on softer ground while a higher draw is more suitable on faster ground.

Wldn't be at all surprised to see syt pulled and saved for the Ascot race... or do we think they'll say "Sod it, got beat because of the draw and must make the frame even still,,,??!"
Report grendel • September 30, 2011 3:14 PM BST
I actually think all the bolloks about WF not running was  wait and see what the draw brings and then we can say its the ground. They're happy with the ground now they got a decent draw.

2m 24.49 , run in record time and draw 2 beats draw 9 ... todays race adds another 7 horses drawn in double figures to be beaten. Now Zarkava's 8/15 win from stall 10 in her Prix Vermeille is the only double figure draw success from 69 tries in Longchamp 12f races (that are available in Raceform Interactive) run in under 149 seconds.

Makes Dancing Braves win from stall 15 of 15 in record time at the time even more meritorious.
