Most breeders are now concentrating on producing fast runners. as they cannot compete with Coolmore and the Arabs for Classic contenders. Sadly, the dominance of Coolmore in the Derby will continue as long as the economics lean so heavily towards sprinters.

There are plenty of sprinters around but I suspect that clerks are looking to minimise the damage to the racing surface at this time of year. Shorter races, less divots-and less rail movement as most 5 and 6 races are straight track races. And of course all 2yo races are sprints until June and the number of races confined to 2yos increases as the season goes along.

Sprinters can run again after a week or so. Two milers  can't . So you get more runs for your money if you buy sprinters. Bookies also like these races as they are decided on where the post or photo finish is. Another yard or less and it is a different winner. Makes form following impossible.

Nice haul Rico.  Probably same reason every other dog race is a half lap sprint nowadays.  Used to be one a meeting as a novelty.  Can be lost at the start, bookies love them.  Slowly away, did your dosh.  Try again in 16 minutes.

Hackney sat morns in the early 80's was grate.

Dont see many stayers races.  Favs slowly away, nay mind it's got another 740 metres left to make it up.   Wins 10 lengths.
