Don't know what the mortality rate is on the M1 but in the Grand National it is about 1% If the M1 had a similar rate of death I doubt many drivers would brave it. ^^^^is this user you, or has he inspired you so much that you feel the need to write essentially his thoughts on a seperate thread? |

What a load of bolloc s, do u ban the marathons because someone collapses and dies, do u ban grand prix motor racing because someone crashes and dies do u ban boxing because of fatal injuries.
Racehorses are bred to run and jump,they r looked after superbly in the majority of cases. I agree you see horrendous scenes on tv ,this was unavoidable coverage,and unfortunate,, That for what its worth is my opinion |

Ban the Great North Run too. Four people died in it this year. Or at least don't show it on TV, so people don't have to watch it.

Where do you get the figure 1 in 33? I've just looked on horsedeathwatch and according to that 5 have died since 2007 (including the 2 on Saturday) which works out at 1 in 40. No figures exist from before that. 38 horses on average die at the racecourse each year with very few jockey deaths, the figures for road deaths and horses are from 2000-2003 (the only years i can find figures) 31 horse deaths and 52 riders (on average) a year. This carnage needs to stop - it's time to ban all horses everywhere methinks......

what are the figures for chickens/pigs/sheep/cows etc
horses are bred to race, they wouldn't have a life without it, that is a fact. they are not bred for the purpose of getting killed or injured. its sad that there are deaths and injuries in the sport but there are a hell of a lot of hypocrites that are jumping on emotions over this rather than a logical approach to it. |

the way the race was shown and the casualties dealt with does need looking at for the portrayal of future races to the wider public though.

there was an uncomfortable silence in my lounge when i had to explain to a guest why a fence was dolled off. i love racing but it is tragic to see horses die.

Ban the National???? So what next, ban all NH racing? What about the flat? Theres plenty more two year olds break legs at home that dont even get to the racecourse, let alone manage 7,8,9,10,plus years getting the best possible care and loving their job... This countrys gone to the dogs, soft, weak people are being bred... Just because screens were not put around a dead horse and it was just covered over, theres an uproar... Horses loosing lives doing the job they are bred for, is just the sad side of a game we live and breathe....

Yes Bilbo but i have a choice about whether to come on here. These killing machines don't and are clearly a menace and need to be destroyed - it's the humane thing to do and for their own good. The odd cow charge has caused a death or 2 in the last year - they're next, sheep are safe.

In any contact sport there are injuries and sometimes unfortunate casualties. A point raised at mine about making the fences smaller etc is wrong as well, as the horses that run it at present would be out of work.
90% of the horses love to race and run, what about whan a jockey is unseated how often do you see the horse carry on.. If people are really that bothered they should just not watch it and not bet.. that would have more effect that this silly campaigning.. What does this guy bet on Table Tennis? Nice... |

yeah but spyker eats meat,so surely if we banned striker less animals would give up their lifes for him,and spykers carbon footprint another load of animals down to him,insects well tens of thousands down to him - and spyer could have donated his losses to charity rather than betting on here,so another load of animals he could have saved -
so how many animals would be saved if we banned the Grand National or if we got rid of spyker. Lets face it spyker youve got to go. |
