A quite exceptional amateur

aftertimism makes me wonder how this hoss was 50/1 this morning when jockeyship is 30% of the deal in these races
Report mrtopnotch • March 18, 2011 6:06 PM GMT
Simple answer is his weight
Report timeless • March 18, 2011 6:08 PM GMT
surely he is not heavier than 12 stone innit.
Report MJK • March 18, 2011 6:10 PM GMT
Gas thing is that he gives some awful rides when riding in Hunter Chases over here. Gives everything a Chicago Grey ride and a lot of the time never gets into it.
Report wildmanfromborneo • March 18, 2011 6:19 PM GMT
Because he would starve. He is a brilliant point to point rider but thats all, look at his record in bumpers its very poor.
Report mrtopnotch • March 18, 2011 6:43 PM GMT
Timeless - he is too heavy to be a pro jockey - simples Love
Report Mav69 • March 18, 2011 10:43 PM GMT
Top jockey - but no chance of him getting down to 10 st on a regular basis. Very good judge of a horse though - been instrumental in getting some of the top irish pointers into training over here

As said earlier he's too heavy to be a pro,how many rides would he get with his weight? In the U.K. we have a jockey in a similar situation,Richard Burton is the best amateur we have & could ride half the professionals to sleep but once again it's basically he's too heavy.

Tis a shame but he cetainly did himself proud this week.
Report Princesse D'Anjou • March 19, 2011 12:35 PM GMT
He's a QR not an amateur - he does and can get paid for riding in races and IIRC gets a cut of the 8 or 9 races he wins every weekend.

I rest my case !
Report Markyacard • April 26, 2017 12:52 AM BST
Who in their right mind would pay him?
Report ambush • April 26, 2017 1:26 AM BST
in my opinion , you need to see mr o connor  live  to really appreciate his horsemanship....i have never seen a better point to point jockey in my half century of time spent between the flags......a very approachable young man.may not excel in bumpers, but is a joy to watch over 3 miles
