I know there are very good female trainers but for me Jenny was the best. Not many males never mind females had the talent and affinity with horses that she had.

Contrary to the image portrayed by the media she is a very nice person.

Any anecdotes or amusing tales? I remember her slapping a jockey, think Luke Harvey may have been the recipient, not many trainers could get away with that.LaughLaugh

Brendan Powell was her Head Lad for a while, she did actually say he would never make a jockey as long as he had a whole up his ass.
But i do agree that she was the best female trainer so far.

Always thought Mary Reveley was a bit mental . She never seemed to send her horse to the big races , when they were in top form .

Training on a large scale requires 2 skills, one is knowing the horses and the other is managing a big team of staff. It is a team effort in the case of the very best whether male or female. Jenny Pitman did get there from a very modest start and on that basis is probably the best. Several good yards have a woman as the named trainer but you may have to look at the rest of the team. Lucinda Russell and Peter Scudamore for example.

jenny is a good egg, tells it how it is no nonsense and as for jamie osborne he has got one of those faces you want to slap reminds me of tim nice but dim ,think she would  have slapped choc as well if she was still training .top lass imo

The Cambridgeshire and the Cesarewitch are not "tin pot novice hurdles" imo.

100 winners in a calendar year not to be sniffed at either.

JP would always be a hard act to follow. Iron hand and iron will, stood for no nonsense and backed it up with results. Also was IMO a real racing type, in it for all the right reasons, and her love of horses was never in doubt. Same can be said for many I suppose, but she was a pioneer and deserves to be at the forefront of any poll. Venetia Williams isn't bad either though!

Flyingbolt, i'm sure Mary Reveley would swap the Cambridgeshire and Cesarewitch for a Grand National or Gold Cup. Laugh

..and any female trainer could get away with slapping a male jockey, whereas no male trainer could.

The only blot on her copybook was when she sent Golden Freeze out to wreck Carvills Hill's chance in the Gold Cup back in the 90s.
I cant realy forgive her for that.Sad

Knew her fairly well ged, almost went to work for her when I was thinking of leaving the forces, the Balkans kicked off and put paid to that.Remember visiting shortly after she won the Gold Cup,she took me through to the office to show me the cup.It was sitting on a window ledge in full view from outside,I commented on it being a target for burglars.

She laughed and said look behind you,I hadnt noticed a blo0dy big rotweiler sleeping in the corner.Lovely lady.

just a reminder about this waste of time called a trainer. when she trained Toby Tobias or "Toby" as she annoyingly kept calling him on the telly.  She said in the King George (Dessies last win) "Toby will not be given a hard race", what the f***??.
This was a group 1, for christ's sake.
Dessie blitzed around the corner into the straight and at 7/2 I pi**** myself knowing no danger was coming from behind.
In the Gold Cup she deliberately ruined Golden Freeze as an animal just to get into Carvill Hill's head and then to top it all she claims on TV to have animal welfare at heart, she is an outrageous hypocrit and makes my blood boil
