my father died last year and had a few accounts with various bookies, i have just found out that he still has
money in some of the accounts, can the monies be recovered.

the solicitor who dealt with the will should have sorted it. If not contact the bookies and they'll probably request a certificate of death and should then refund the money to the next of kin.
