Thanks fellas thought it was, couldn't find it anywhere, but during my google search did find this snippit from T Vaughan
"Norman Whitham who already has a few shares in horses now has in his ownership Mariinsky, a 4 year old German bred gelding who finished 4th of 16 in a novice hurdle in Ireland. Mariinsky has significant scope and ability, we will probably try and win with him over the summer before giving him a break but he will undoubtedly jump a fence in time." |

Mariinsky. Tried to take a bite out of Joe Mercer's foot (when riding Relkino) coming round Tattenham Corner in the Diomed. Subsequently raced with a muzzle in the July Cup. Bolted up by 3 lengths, but bumped Gentilhombre on the way through and got DQ'd. Died of colic soon after.

Mariinsky was a son of Nijinsky.
Nijinsky (the ballet dancer, born Wacław Niżyński, to Polish parents) spent much of his career with the Mariinsky Ballet Company, at the Mariinsky Theatre, both of which have had several different names as Russian history has been written and rewritten. |
