Went to loal shop to have 30 EW Dandy Boy. Cashier told me only 20 EW and wrote new ticket but just noticed she's just written "Dandy Boy 3.25 Ascot" and then a stake of 40. As she hasn't written either win or EW what will it be settled as?

Win.

Why did you get her to write your ticket?
Report Repollag May 8, 2010 4:24 PM BST
That will be a massive stroke of luck if you are right but I won't have the nerve to challenge them if I get paid EW. I wouldn't want to get anyone in trouble.

win
Report A1 Bionic May 8, 2010 4:25 PM BST
why would they pay you EW

If it had finished second they wouldnt have paid you a penny

Grow some balls
Report WestRat May 8, 2010 4:26 PM BST
On face value it would be a win bet
Report Repollag May 8, 2010 4:26 PM BST
inspiron - she told me only 20 EW, so as she had the slip I said "Can you change it"; she said Yes and then wrote out a completely new slip.
Report minardi May 8, 2010 4:27 PM BST
If it's a chain take it to another brance / shop she won't be able to remember it then.

But it is defo a win.
Report trixie May 8, 2010 4:28 PM BST
"I wouldn't want to get anyone in trouble."

Why, they would do it to you. Go for it man!
Report Repollag May 8, 2010 4:28 PM BST
A1 Bionic -  Are you sure they wouldn't have paid me anything if it had have been placed but not won. The slip doesn't say either and I had asked for EW which is what my original slip said.

Also just noticed that next to "Total returns" she has written "WFC". What's that all about?
Report AndyMac May 8, 2010 4:34 PM BST
what fat cu**
Report gwladys street May 8, 2010 4:35 PM BST
Wfc means written for customer
Report hippie May 8, 2010 4:35 PM BST
They would have paid you nothing. It went through the camera as a win bet. If you said it was supposed to be EW they'd apologise (if the cashier admitted their mistake) and say there's nothing they could do about it.

It's a win bet. Collect your winnings.

WFC might be her initials because she wrote out the slip.
Report stringy May 8, 2010 4:36 PM BST
No problems with a ticket that reads as a win. More of a prolem with you, you jammy rascal! :-)
Report Repollag May 8, 2010 4:43 PM BST
I always write either "Win" or "EW" on my slips. So is it the case that if you write neither it's a win bet even if you asked for EW? Won't it depend what she typed in her computer rather than what the slip says?
Report Amberleigh House May 8, 2010 4:49 PM BST
Theres only one way to find out. Go and collect. Let us know how you get on.
Report welshrock May 8, 2010 4:50 PM BST
its a win ..cashier wont want to bring the error up as it was hers....but if it is in system as ew then you can make the point you only wanted win and have ticket to prove but this may jeopardise her position.   Do it , bookies find ANYWAY not to pay and you have proof so take it all.   wd nice luck :)
Report Repollag May 8, 2010 4:55 PM BST
Just phoned a friend; he reckons it depends how she translated it but I could probably argue it's a Win Only bet, but they will probably argue the £20 EW limit means it is obvious it was an EW bet. I will go cash it in as soon as my son brings my car back.

Is it ok these days for staff to write out punters betting slips?
Report gwladys street May 8, 2010 5:01 PM BST
if e/w was not on the slip the bet has to be translated as win only.
Report Repollag May 8, 2010 5:03 PM BST
I think it should be OK. You could imagine there could be some poor old guy with chronic artharitis who wanted a bet and the staff could help him out by writting it for him. I was surprised she didn't just change the stake on my slip, which would have been much easier than writting out a whole new slip.
Report inspiron May 8, 2010 5:03 PM BST
Just go and collect it....LaughGrin

inspiron - it's too far to walk! BTW inspiron you got a sister called ADell Happy (Sorry you must have heard that so many times before)
Report Guesser May 8, 2010 5:11 PM BST

Report wonders May 9, 2010 2:08 PM BST
if its to far to walk then run lol we want the 40 pound on the win for you

Sorry dad!

have you collected your winnings yet?
If so, did they pay you on Win Or EW ?
Report oldbean May 9, 2010 2:19 PM BST
if it's a busy shop then another member of staff might have entered it in to system then  it would go in as win. but if it's the same lady she just might remember you wanted each way and realised her error
Report wonders May 9, 2010 2:23 PM BST
can u collect at another shop ?
Report hairylemon May 9, 2010 2:58 PM BST
wfc means that they have your card marked, dont collect  the police will be waiting for you
