By:
as above
By:
legend and if u copy in from a website do u have to manually change each one?
By:
if you format the cells first with 'text' as format
you will be able to do this |
By:
rossoner
do the formatting first of the cells the data is to go in and you will be fine. no good putting data in then trying to format after. |
By:
thanx 4 all help but im havin no luck copyin in stuff im still gettin dates even after i format 2 text and cant put apostrophe on cos its already in date form
so any advice?! |
By:
where are you copying from?
By:
adrian massey just doin an odds analysis
By:
i'll have a look mate
By:
can u try anfield and see can u manage it
By:
ok do what i said with formatting cells to text 1st.
then use copy and paste special in excel, select 'text' deffo should work |
By:
thanx mate it does but u cant sort or list the odds this way sorry 4 being a pain but its been buggin me 4 a while!
By:
how do you want to sort the odds exactly ?
By:
i want to sort the finishing positions then odds just a to z descending just to get all 5 runners then all 6 etc
By:
i get you
you'd have to sort by decimal odds which would mean after you've copied and pasted. inserting a column to the lft of your data and copying the decimal odds column data to fit in it. you can then sort all the data from that ? |
By:
thanx alf il just try that
By:
not really workin cant align them quick and am resortin 2 manually puttin them in which is where i started
thanx 4 helpin can u get it rite?! |
By:
i've now got the decimal sp odds in column A with prices going down the sheet from lowest to highest.
is that what you are after ? column b is text odds ie 4-11 which is obviously ascending with column a. column c is then runners and d wins |
By:
If you copy the prices from and paste special as text the data should transfer exactly as copied
By:
1.33 1-3 6 3
1.36 4-11 13 10 1.40 2-5 29 20 1.44 4-9 42 27 1.50 1-2 44 25 1.53 8-15 28 13 1.57 4-7 73 38 1.62 8-13 73 44 1.67 4-6 130 72 1.73 8-11 135 65 1.80 4-5 160 89 1.83 5-6 96 41 1.91 10-11 218 103 2.00 1-1 294 141 2.10 11-10 270 113 2.20 6-5 156 69 2.25 5-4 471 182 2.38 11-8 490 194 2.50 6-4 696 256 2.62 13-8 629 217 2.75 7-4 1206 392 2.88 15-8 876 286 first 4 columns look like this |
By:
Copy the data and paste (as normal not paste special etc) into a worksheet.
Then while the pasted data is still selected copy and in another worksheet paste special, text |
By:
lol he's got to the point where the text odds problem has been sorted.
he wasnts to sort his columns now, and that obviously is not possible with odds like 4-11, 7-4 etc. so i have shown that they need to be sorted from decimal odds |
By:
I see. To calculate line by and sort, I think you'd need to use a programming language - It can be done fairly quickly in Perl and PL/SQL. You may be able to do it in VBA too.
By:
rossoneri have you done it yet?
i am going out soon. |
By:
forgive me anf ( after istanbul u owe me this much!!) im followin ur advice cant get it without manual tamperin how u copy a column when in text?
By:
after you've copied from massey and done the paste special...
in column a you have text odds yes ? insert a column so that column a shifts over to the right. in the blank column copy the'sp decimal odds data' into the new blank column a. your column A now is decimal odds, you can then obviously apply a filter to sort this.? do you want what i have shown in the table i posted earlier or am i getting it wrong what you actually want? |
By:
no the table was fine just the copying to col a is gettin me so after i copy i have it in text do i just highlight the price eg 2/1 and then move 2 a?
By:
right have you inserted a column in the sheet so that column a is now blank and b is sp odds, c is runners etc.. ?
By:
once you have a blank column a...
click on the h of column h and the whole of the data in that column is selected. then use copy and just paste into the blank column a obviously you then have column a as decimal odds and you can sort this from low to high or high to low ? |
By:
The atmosphere is electric
By:
format cell (CTR+;1)--> text
By:
after this you will have a table that looks like the one i posted earlier where the data is sorted by decimal odds in ascending order.
By:
moongirl he hasn't got a problem with formatting anymore
By:
anyway rossoneri i really have to go i'm afraid.
hope its what you need now. gl |
