Never been to L'Ancresse - odd track isn't it / impossible to come from behind in the straight? I'm from Jersey so occasionally go to Les Landes despite the bookies ridiculous over-rounds !

Twister, that used to be the way but plenty of work been done on course, no problems now if horse is good enough, the last bend has been altered to allow this to be fairer to those challenging form behind.
Bookie over rounds in my opinion totally due to massive costs involved by the local race club i believe the books pay app 3500 per year for app 9 meetings, cheaper to stand at ascot /cheltenham.. |

went to les landes last year.not really like a mainland UK race meeting but a lovely relaxed atmosphere.presumably guernsey would be much the same if on an even smaller scale

I'll have to get over to Guernsey for a meeting some time.
Didn't realise the bookies paid so much. I think it's fair to say that when comes to racing a Jersey crowd is not a knowledgable crowd, but you only need a rudimentary knowledge of maths to know that you're likely to lose money quickly at Les Landes. No one is ever going to have a big bet there. I don't know the extent to which this affects attendance, but allowing the bookies to reduce their margin would surely get more people betting. I have to say though, having top UK commentators sharing the summer meetings is a boon for Island racing and is to be applauded. |
