I am writing the history of Bookmaking 1700 to 2010.
It will show that gambling in 1700 started out as a simple Exchange system, the first real Bookmakers being The Dukes of Cleveland, and Grafton, and Lords Abingdon, Foley, and Derby. After it began to become popular for a wider ordinance integrity was required. and it was lacking. A Professional element took over, When Denis Okielly an Irishman, calculated, Odds, but lacked full honesty. Ogden and Davies followed on years later.with both of those element, and of course the guaranteed payment of the original gang. but with a % written in to there service. A jump through today, and the modern Exchange has almost cracked the integrity issue, and of course prompt payment, however have they created, there true, obligation ad an agency, to safeguard both sides of there transactions, Yet.
Both crockford and Ogden were semi illiterate other than in maths, so I go a little further than those by being illiterate. but at what time does great English give you an edge when betting.
i am genuinely interested.
