First of all i agree with the decision to change the result.

The Senior steward didn't even know his left's from rights, regarding Queally's whip hand.

But then Cat asks the most pertinent question, "What about if the result was a head?"

"I don't do what ifs was the reply"

For f**ks sake, the one chance he had to give us an insight into how they think and he bottled it.

Obviously ammout of intereference relative to distance beaten by is what they are deciding, but to give us a clue as to just how much intereference there was there would have cleared a few doubts up.

If he'd come on and said, if the result is nose/sh/head then with that ammount of intereference then resut would change, if neck or more she'd keep it, etc etc

He can't answer the question because they make it up as they go along imo...
Report ilikewavingatbuses May 2, 2010 4:10 PM BST
but it was a pointless question, nothin to do with the race, it WASNT a head and nobody knows the answer because it didnt happen!!
Report Wrecked May 2, 2010 4:10 PM BST
they did a 'what if' to reach the decision they did

If you watch racing day in day out, which i suspect most people on this forum don't, you will see that happen every fcking day with nothing whatsoever done about it. It's all very well these stewards coming out with all the usual shyte but that will all sound very hollow tomorrow at some gaff track when the same happens and nothing is done. There was a 2yo race last week (i don't recall the horse) where the first-past-the-post dragged the 2nd from one side of the track to the other and then nearly dumped it over the rails. It kept the race. The rules might state that JQ should lose the race, but these rules are not put into practice 364 days of the year so why put them inlt practise today? A complete shambles.

Interesting point, but they aren't paid to do 'what ifs'.
I suspect a neck and the winner would have kept it.
A head and she might have done as well.
That is why Francome was so way off the mark.
If you don't change such obvious interference when it is a short head or a nose then there is no point of having a stewards.
Report Petraco May 2, 2010 4:17 PM BST
"What if's" is exactly what they have just done.

They have decided in their opinions WHAT would have happened IF the horses hadn't done what they did, but had done something else instead.

But day in day out there is no point in them tilted. Very few races get reversed these days, but today they clearly fancied their moment in the sun. At Lingers on tuesday they won't bother leaving the Members' Bar, they'll just press the 'Placings remain unaltered' button. The rules say plenty of things and probably say that JQ should have been demoted, but they aren't the rules that these clueless toffs use day in day out.

Petraco,

indeed they are saying what IF there as no intereference!! Hadn't thought of that!

i agree totally john leslie - saw the race u were talking about - its inconsistant - and it leaves a very bad feeling about today
Report art May 2, 2010 4:29 PM BST
like u say the big days mean the stewards suddenly get there moment of power, it isnt france thank goodness where results are changed for miminal interference and the racing is follow the leader and like watching paint dry
Report metro john May 2, 2010 4:29 PM BST
There was almost no contact, if the horse would have been good enough it would have gone past?
Report postmannick May 2, 2010 4:31 PM BST
the exact same thing will happen this week at some racecourse and the result will stand -fact
Report tilted May 2, 2010 4:36 PM BST
John Leslie, we certainly need consistency among stewards and at 'High Holborn' when there are appeals. I believe they got it right today, and that the rule should be applied right across the board as it was today.
I'm sure many can remember a horse being hampered from the far side of the run-in to under the stands' rail at Exeter a few years back (a day I was there) and the stewards did not change the rule.
That was just after the rule was changed to favour the first past the post.
