In slow motion replay, head high and was clearly breathing through his mouth in closing stages. Tongue tie next time ?

could be but more likely feeling the ground and being a Montjeu will be inclined to hold his head high

ground was too quick for him underfoot, horse needs good racing ground to cut, confirmed RP form but todays conditions wasnt to his liking!!!

Ran exactly the same way at Doncaster, didn't inder him there.

The soft palate blocks off the pharynx from the mouth of the horse, except when swallowing. This helps to prevent the horse from inhaling food, a horse can only breathe through its nostrils.

looked at the winner before the race, won twice on very soft ffs

May need soft palate op then......watched it again, horses mouth opens a lot in closing stages as if gasping for air. First time under pressure in this race than previous runs.

Stayed on quite well for a horse with breathing problems.

Another reason can be that this is the rapeseed growing season, more so in the UK than Ireland and a lot of horses suffer from equine hay fever at this time of year, with an allergic reaction to rapeseed pollen.....
ie. this post from Horse & Hound: One of mine has hayfever, or to give its veterinary name, allergic rhinitis, to oil seed rape pollen. She snorts a lot, sending a fine spray into the air, rubs her nostrils on her forelegs, curls her upper lip (Flehmen gesture) and headshakes with a sudden twitchy movement. She doesn't wheeze or cough though. It starts around Easter time each year, and continues until the start of June...when the rape is no longer in bloom. Be interesting to see how he scopes after the race. |

The line between success and failure is very slim. Had the 2000gns been run today the result may well have been very different.
