It's never been a race to get involved with in a big way but there's a group 1 winner in the field who has been rather overlooked. The 2,000 gns winner doesn't usually win the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster but the winner of that race doesn't usually go on to win a Group 1 later in the season. Well in the Pat Eddery trained Hearts Of Fire we have such a runner. The group 1 he won was the Gran Criterium (Group 1) in Italy and I suppose we could be forgiven in thinking that it could well have been substandard. The only problem with that approach is that the second Vale Of York went to the States and won the Grade 1 Breeders Cup Juvenile - well that's what I call franking the form.
So Hearts Of Fire could well have been just a good juvenile, but his sire Firebreak best race was when winning the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Mile (Group 1) in 2004 as a 5yo. He's also shown he acts on both Gf and soft. At 50+ he looks just a little big and worth the risk |
