Depends on the ground, very tempting to lay if the ground stays quick, however it would appear the rain has come along just in time for the horse. Chronically short price even so.

The price alone is reason to lay it. Throw in the uncertainty of whether he'll be as good a 3 year old as he was at 2 and a doubt about the ground and 5-4 looks far too short. Even if he wins I'd expect him to trade well above 2-1 in running due to his hold up style. He only has to find a hint of traffic and the twitchy IR layers will be keen to see him off. Trading him for a profit whatever wins should be straightforward.

I'd rather just watch the race. It wouldn't be the biggest surprise to see a top two year old not train on. But every sign points to the fact he has. Whoever wins I hope they put up a great performance.

Laddies go shortest price at Evs.
They rarely get it wrong on O'Brien's horses. If this horse does what it is capable of, it will be the making of a superstar today. I watched its previous 2 runs, this horse is the real deal, the acceleration on this horse is beyond belief if you watch carefully. Laying it is wishful thinking, sure it....might not have trained on, might not get a run etc. Chances are Murtagh will get the job done and this horse will come there on the bridle, Murtagh will press the button and St Nicholas Abbey will destroy them with its incredible acceleration in the final furlong. 4-5 length demolition job I reckon. |

There has been no negatives, he still retains favouritism, there have been no scares, the stable jockey takes the ride. These to me are signs that everything is ok. It is not fact, I never stated them as fact and I to will hold my judgement on whether he has trained on. Hence me not having a bet as stated in my original post. If you just took your thumb out your arse for one second and actually read what people say instead of just going on the attack, you might learn something or gain some friends. |

It's 38 years since the winner of the Racing Post Trophy won the 2000. Only one fav has won this race in at least the last 16 years. |

Ground lightning quick with minimal rain forecast
Poor record of favourites in race. Montjeu stock need further at 3. Slow speed figures to date Stable slow to come to hand this year (as last year when Mastercraftsman and RipVW both ran a 10lb below their best in this race) The Derby has always been the plan for this horse. (Read trainer/jockey comments last year) |

Watched the Racing Post Trophy again & still cant believe how much speed this horse has, cant honestly see it being beaten.
Already hammered ELUSIVE PIMPERNEL,& AL ZIR cant see these turning the form around. CANFORD CLIFFS, dont think this will stay up the hill, AWZAAN, another " will it stay?" If SNA is fit it wins doesnt it. |

By Simon Holt It looks a really strong renewal of the StanJames.com 2000 Guineas and the ante-post betting throughout the winter has been dominated by the Aidan O'Brien-trained St Nicholas Abbey. He seems to have rock-solid credentials because he was unbeaten in three starts as a two-year-old. He won first time out at the Curragh, then landed a Group 2 back at the Curragh, but most eyecatching of all was his win in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster. He showed a blistering turn of foot to beat Elusive Pimpernel, the recent winner of the Craven Stakes, and Al Zir who is a highly-regarded Godolphin colt. That form looks head and shoulders above anything else on offer. I suppose the alternative bit of form you would look at is the Dewhurst which is traditionally the hottest of the two-year-old races. However, it resulted in a bit of a bunch finish last October. It was won by O'Brien's Beethoven, with stablemate Fencing Master back in second. He goes here, but stable jockey Johnny Murtagh has chosen to ride St Nicholas Abbey. Xtension was close up in third in the Dewhurst, Buzzword was fifth and Dick Turpin was sixth and they've all got a bit of ground to make up on the book, one would have thought, with St Nicholas Abbey. Having said that Fencing Master really caught my eye on that occasion, and it wouldn't be the first time O'Brien's second-string has turned out to be the best. He's one to keep an eye on because he's a tremendously scopey colt and it was only his second start in the Dewhurst. One of the other leading contenders has to be Awzaan who is unbeaten in four starts so far. He can do no more than beat what's served up to him and he was the winner of the Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury last September, and the Group One Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket. He's yet to run beyond the six, but being a son of Alhaarth he should stay at least a mile, perhaps even a mile and a quarter, on pedigree. He could be a danger, though connections do report that he hasn't grown a lot over the winter. Richard Hannon has two strong contenders in Canford Cliffs and Dick Turpin, the latter beating his highly-rated stablemate in the Greenham at Newbury first time out this season. Canford Cliffs of course slammed Xtension by six lengths in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot last summer, but hasn't really been able to reproduce that effort in two starts since and there is a question mark over whether he will stay a mile and that also goes for Dick Turpin. It would be great to see Pat Eddery, former champion jockey, train a Classic winner. He has a chance with Hearts Of Fire who won his last three starts last season abroad at Deauville, Baden Baden and then in Group One company at San Siro, beating the subsequent Breeders' Cup winner Vale Of York. That could be very good form, but it has to be said Hearts Of Fire could probably do with plenty of cut in the ground. Elusive Pimpernel has plenty to find with St Nicholas Abbey on their run in the Racing Post Trophy but it was a taking performance when he reappeared to win the Craven Stakes, slamming Dancing David by four lengths. He's an awesome looking colt with lots of scope and he could well be the one to give St Nicholas Abbey most to do along with Fencing Master. However, although it's unoriginal, St Nicholas Abbey just seems to have all the form in the book and he looks to be a colt with a brilliant turn of acceleration. |

Iwould love to have a reason to lay him but much as I love Elusive Pimpernel, he was left for dead by St Nick last year and if the fav turns up in anything like the same form, it is no contest.

I disagree with the first line of Simon's article.
I think SNA will win what will turn out not to be a vintage renewal. Time will tell on both counts. |
