Following the fiasco of the void Grand Nat he said that it was a joke and that even in a simple country like Ireland they do it properly.

Once trained Suny Bay- if he'd kept it (instead of it going to Chas Brookes) he could have made it.

Memorable also for (I think) coining a phrase that I use a lot.

When his business went tlts-up, he said

Never did, of course.

the beast, yeah, lived up to his name in 93 or 94 Gold Cup. Called Ireland a backward little country after void national (he actually meant it as a compliment!!!!!)l, and that was more or less that for him.
