Todays racing page in DT....'Racing is missing out on its chance to cash in on its most recognisable face...'

'....he has been told that he will be restricted to working at only a handful of race meetings this year. Highflyer have axed most of high profile work - and left him with a contract which has been slashed by 80%. It is curious that when BHA is rebranding racing that the man most instantly associated with racing is pushed to the sidelines. In his prime he commanded £300,000 per contract. He has been informed that he is not to be rostered for most other mid week Festivals, inc. next week's Chester meeting and York later in the month, but it is understood that Goodwood have stepped in and 'insisted that Big Mac be included in their 5 day Glorious Goodwood package in July.
'I feel publicly humiliated' said McCririck.
Despite shunning their high profile performer. Channel 4 have insisted he appear each saturday on the ailing Morning Line...'

why are they paid so much when they clearly do it for the love of the camera ? just cut his pay dramatically and let him decide what he wants to do

Ask yourself the question why is Mac being sidelined. Do you think its because despite his strong identity and the viewers that brings the authorities have ahd a twinge of social conscience over some of his views and as a result have decided to forgo viewing figures and be socially accountable ... er I dont think so. Why then do you think he is being sidelined in favour of his current replacments ?.

I have my view but would like to hear yours first.

here is my sincere opinion. He's a cnt. He knows sod all about form and yet is allowed to pontificate on that subject. If he confined his activities to gambling/racing politics that would be nfg but for him to assess the chances of a horse is truly appalling. And in that field Jim aint much better.

If he knows nothing about betting (I agree) then that would make him an ideal candidate for the job in the eyes of those who appoint to these positions. If you think for one minute they are interested in appointing highly succesful beting gurus to comment on the days racing then you will have a long wait to see this materialise (c4 that is)

You must remember that subversly the whole of the racing popular media is run and controlled to ensure that the betting public do not get a semblance of a whiff of how to bet successfully. This would have disastorous effects on the betting turnover and hence revenue. Why would the BBc for example employ Parrot and the Tote bookie (forget his name) to advise viewers.

quite....and quite. I spent an unpleasant couple of hours having dinner with Franklin. Most of the time was taken up with him belittling a waiter. The waiter was doing his best but it was more fun to take the slash. I had never met Franlin before and I'm happy that we've not met since. His assistant was a charming woman. I hope she gets paid plenty.

Those prats at Highflyer have got it precisely the wrong way round. For the good of racing, Big Mac needs to be kept off the Morning Line where his misogynist and loony right wing act is offensive to many, and smears racing by association.

But there is no problem with his reporting from the betting ring (aside from the drunks who gather behind him to wave at the camera).

He is being sidelined because the" powers that be" in Television now prefer pretty looking, safe, bland, conformists on our screens in as many programmes as possible.

Franks is an example of personality over substance. he has demonstrated little real knowledge of paddock profiling and little courage when it comes to making paddock comments. I would imagine during the last 2 years no more than 4 or 5 paddock negatives have been reported him and his partner. This stat is completley unexcuseable and is explained by the fact that when these people exist in such close proximity to the people they are assessing they lose all moral courage.

the fat fool is a bland conformist.....in racing circles. He is stupid, right wing and quite dysfunctional. The game's full of them.

This sounds a memorable piece of racing journalism, though can it be ranked alongside Down's sycophantic defence of Franklin - you decide.
