I have £1k here to buy a new laptop. Sony Vaio probably. I could either, a) just go on line and purchase, or b) use the money on here this afternoon in an attempt to double it or better, to get a "free" laptop.
The first 20 responses "yes" gamble, or "no" just buy the damn thing
will dictate my decision by majority verdict.
If I don't get 20 responses by the first race today, I will make my own decision.
If the decision is yes gamble, I will post my bets as I go.
I will not want advice as to what to bet, and will put in running lays to recoup stake each time if possible, but will stake the entire accumulated bank each time.
This will obviously provide great amusement if I go out on bet 1, but i'm big enough to take it. :)
So....what will it be?

We'd all love you to double it, but if you lose the lot you'll be sick to the stomach and have nothing to show for it! trust me, i do it most days/weeks! :(

Everybody saying Sony are bad, but why? They are leaders in picture quality and sound, so what is bad about them?

pictures and sound are about the last things to look at when buying a laptop (not saying they arent important) - unless you are going to be using it for purely porn based missions...

People who say Sony is bad..well you cant make an informed decision based just on that. Sure there is an element of paying for the brand but I would say their laptops are very much respected. Got to make your own mind up and go out to shops and test different ones out. Its the only way especially when buying high end stuff.

info-pro gamblers ALWAYS do a number two...at least 30 mins prior to racing
i got a shiney new samsung from ARGOS..it broke after 11 days and tthey will not replace or repair..i am having to take them too small claims court...dont buy from the**
I too would recommend against the Sony Viao as my gf has one and we're not impressed. My HP Pavilion is great and I would be happy to recommed that.

As we are fast running out of landfill sites in this country I would ask anyone and everyone not to buy a Sony.

I worked out which bet's to concentrate on in advance, so if I don't play the whole bank, I can't make the £1k without taking greater risks, so i will stick to the plan.
WD Paradox Go to the Dell site and build you own system. Go for the fastest processor the biggest hard drive and the most Ram Hope this helps.

I have sony's, dells, Hp's, acer's and toshiba's
there is nothing wrong with a Sony Vaio I just don't think they are value for money. Dell have always been my preference, look good, work well and good value.

Sony aren't bad,they are just generally overpriced compared to other laptops.
They also come filled with alot more junk than other brands but this isn't a problem if you know anything about laptops

whatever you get paradox give Ubuntu a try.
Linux based operating system - works very well and quick as not bloated like windows.
Try it if you have an old machine.

I think the people who are saying that Sony Vaios are **e, clearly have never had one.
I have a Vaio, and without a shadow of a doubt, it has been the best laptop that I have ever had. Although it was expensive, it has been worth every penny, I got mine in HD, and I simply cannot fault it.

I had a Sony Vaio & 2 friends as well. All the batteries were cr@p. The actual laptop was ok though.
Yeah battery maybe the only downside, however, with me its always plugged in as I dont carry it around.
The asus Eee pc are good portable laptops with excellent battery lives. ca 250 will do the job if it's predominantly surfing, portability & it's light weight that is required. A fine 2nd laptop.

I spent many hours going through specs, then came to the conclusion life was too short and anyway any £1000 laptop was going to be a million miles better than the 8 year old dinosaur I currently use. I am pretty confident this will suit my needs, and although I still can't really see what it is about the Sony's people don't like, they probably are no better than some others but cost more.
It won't be delivered till next week, so back to form study now.

I work in a place where everyone has macs, and there are somethings only a pc can do which is of benefit to my work. Thanks anyway though.
