I imagine those with large double digits invested in pitches will be chuffed that more prime room is to be made for the drunks and those dressed as Elvis.
Don't forget your decimal odds and 1/4 1-2-3-4 for the drunks.
At what point will the tracks learn that the bookmakers are an integral part (like it or not) of the raceday experience?
Of course if the books had any brains, they'd tell the tracks, "better still, no books will attend and then the drunks can just roll down the slope unhindered"......... just a thought.
What price you may ask none attending ( in ireland 1/100 )......... here, should be 1-10,actually it's 1000/1. I don't suppose they'll ever work together for collective betterment.

I'm afraid bookmakers simply are not integral to any racing experience these days but BF is. Simples. Who cares? Some of the SP's and prices (Kempton immediately springs to mind) compared to BF are beyond a joke. Those were the days my friend ... New world order and BF top of the pecking list now. Who was that dude mentioned on here at Aintree ripping punters off and probably was not the only one? I know you have overheads but so what. Don't tar all with the same brush but traditional old - fashioned bookmaking looks like it is nearly dead. RIP. Come to think of it who wants to go racing on big days when you get surrounded by mostly**heads?

ive been racing this winter around 15 times give or take ..theres no doubt in my mind that the rings are much more quieter ...im not taking sides and im not going to criticise books or betfair ,its just an opinion my opinion,sometimes it does no good to scream and shout pointing the finger and having a go ,but the machine has had an effect on on-course,we,d all be thick and stupid to think otherwise ,the man in the street for the last47 years since the legaliseation of betting shops has had a rough deal ,the machine has helped to correct that now hasnt it?..why should bookmakers have it all there own way ,when punters have found a way through the net overthe years theyve had that avenue closed on them havent they ,restricted stakes ,closed accounts ,etc etc ,now the machine gives them a chance ,and on-course books are having to changed ,but dont forget that 99% of punters still end up doing the invevitable dont they ....they lose....some of the successful ones on here do have to pay a 20% tax or premimium charge .......so sometimes it makes me wonder just who is getting it ,on -cousre books struggling for buisness 7 months of the year and the other 5 months fighting of drunks ,which takes me to racecourses ,during the main period of night meetings saturday sundays bank holidays,they have to cater for the drink brigade becuse it becomes a vital way of generating revenue,if they didnt vcater for these people they would find somewhere else to go for live entertainment and get bladdered wouldnt they ?....then theyd be lost to the tracks ,stop them getting drunk stop them getting dressed a s elvis stop them having there kind of fun and they stop coming and thats a lot of profit tracks lose on £3.50 a pint isnt it im sure tracks are on top of it all and are aware of the trouble that can get out of hand ,if it goes off ,but if you look at a lot of tracks now especially doncaster and haydock the crowd control people are proffesionall door men ,bouncers whatever ,there not there to pick on innocent people there to do a thoughrly professional job of ....crowd control ......its called change and we have to change with it some people dont go no more ,some stick to mid-week ,but its here to stay ,and we have to learn to get along with it .2,000 guines for me on saturday ,i can keep away from the lager louts if it pleases me i may have a bet with bob hughes or alan preston there good guys and there happy to take and happy to pay ....have a good weekend people

you put the time and effort in yoyo ....fair play .....but can you explain to me why theres less books out in the 6-7 months winter perion than ever before ,,thats just my opinion ....10 years ago there could be 20 books at track s in mid-week and now there may only be 12 ...i do honestly accept that you are high profile and you are not anybodys fool ,but while youve taken advantage of a situation that youve turned in your favour .....why does it seem that there are less books ........yes people are paying more money now for pitches ....the top ones .....but are tracks getting stronger attendances ,stronger markets ,stronger punters , obvioysly it appears from your side of the fence they are ....but see from my own eyes that its nowhere near what it used to be ......i do admit ive not frequented your area much so i cant comment on your own back yard .....perhaps the attendances have held up in the south ,i dont know im only commenting from midlands and north

Liked that bit you wrote about retireing yo yo, think you done it for a day i believe then got bored and jumped in the car to join your son!! i did about the same, put my feet up for maybe a day at most, was bored witless.

most tracks, except kempton, my tickets and turnover are comparable to recent years, recent meaning previous 5 years,
Folkestone, fontwell, Ascot off, goodwood off, sandown show considerable increase. I regularly ask management about crowd attendance , they assure me there numbers are good. |

What's wrong with scrapping the front row? There are (IMO) too many bookies at most meetings, having fewer books will improve the performance of the remaining ones. I doubt that punters will have to queue for a bet either.
I'm not anti-bookmaker, but when I've been racing I am amazed that there are so many bookies with *identical* prices, all working right next to each other. Throw out some of them (perhaps those that just arb against Betfair) and life will be better for those that remain. |

i bet on track, lay standard terms every race every day, and lay large business without complaint. For these reasons the activities on here don't matter a jot to me, the odds here, whatever. I cannot lay three grand on a favourite at betfair odds when all there is on here is a couple of hundred or less more often. ergo i see no reason why I should bet to exchange odds if exchange bookies don't offer it themselves. period

If you were at Punchestown last week and saw the huge over rounds on the books you would not be surprised the ring handle for the week was down from 9m to 7m .
They are pricing themselves out of existance - in Ireland at least. |

they are not doing away with the front row bookmakers, they are just pushing eveyone back and leaving the front row vacant [ will still be the same number , sadly , but a greater number will be out with the washing ] this gives more floor space in front of the books for drunks to congregate and throw beer about as they do. |

I went to the Sandown Cup meeting when in London a few weeks ago.It was a great day out and a good winning one.At least you could have a couple of hundred pound on a horse,unlike Fred's betting shop who knocked back an 80 pound bet on a 2/1 dog.

Too much generalisation going on here. There are books who are prepared to take any size bet regardless of the liquidity on here - but there are also those that are not. There are pleasant affable accommodating layers on course and there are are those that are the complete opposite. Hopefully punters will patronise the former in both instances.

Tracks should not be restricting the places bookies have traditionally bet in whilst promoting more and more tote terminals. |
