Just re-read the cutting I kept from the R.Post stating that Morley Street was not a great horse but a very good one.
I beg to differ - Despite me being a Cheltenham fan above all else, not all greatness is acquired at that track. If Morley had scored 5 time at the Chelt Festival and not the Aintree one (4 Martell Hurdles and a novice victory) in 5 successive years I think he would have been deemed great.
Those victories, especially the last one with "Brad" at his cheeky best, make him a great hurdler in my opinion. Add a Champion Hurdle in there too and that must surely qualify him.
He wasn't a fencer, but that shouldn't count against him as many great horses stuck to one code, so what do you think ?
I saw Toby Balding at Cheltenham last year and told him that Morley was the reason I became a National Hunt fan. He looked really choked and very grateful that I had stoped him to say such a thing - that in turn got me choked up.
Blimey, it was nearly 2 grown men who don't know each other hugging in front tof he bookies BEFORE a race had even been run !!!

I was a big Morley Street fan - he was hugely talented - however the fact that he won four Aintree hurdles and not four Champions DOES count against him in terms of "greatness". And if you disagree tell me where you would put Al Eile on your list of all time greats.

Shame he couldn't jump a fence to save his life otherwise my antepost bets would have come up in the champion hurdle that year...when he beat Nomadic Way.
