I see the Racing Post have carried a conversion odds box on fractionals to decimals, as it will be used in the trial by all accounts.
I know why they have carried it as such (because this is how the trial is bizarrely going to take place), though it is doesnt show how odds on shots will be displayed and it clearly isnt correct.
I think the RP really should have claried it is not a decimal odds trial at all - because evens is plainly not 1, 2 is 2 etc.
You will get a situation where the ring will be showing an evens chance at 1, and it could be showing 2+ on the Tote and even bigger on here.
someone at RFC really hasnt thought this through at all - are the ring going to be showing newcomers the favourite in the first at 0.34?

was thinking the same myself.....an even money chance shows as 2 on betfair, 2 on the Tote and 2 on any bookmakers site where you choose decimal odds.
but will show 1 on the boards? whilst it may make more sense to an absolute newcomer, surely anyone who knows the slightest about betting (lets say a very occasional punter) will expect their stake included in the figure?? |

Correct - it should be proper decimal odds or not at all.

Totally agree so now in effect not taking into account the tote price we shall have the traditional fractional price 6/4, the betfair price 2.5 and the on course decimal price of 1.5 !! why on earth they didnt go with the decimal +1 approach is beyond me......... very strange decision imho

Any course bookmaker displaying 2 and even money chance will get mobbed by punters thinking they are getting 2/1. As an on-course bookmaker I would not do this on a Saturday with the drunks without a court order making me and police protection.
Its all right you lot sitting on your PCs pontificating about the rights and wrongs of it. We have to deal with the consequences in the real world with real people who do not accept reasoning too well. In my opinion the t0te and exchanges (minority betting interests) are wrong and all odds should be displayed "to 1" as RFC have identified if we have to go down this route. |

wasnot, I can't imagine that showing an 8/13 shot as 0.61 (or 0.62 :) ) is going to go down that well with them either?
The stick you'll get can't be any worse than enforcing a R4 to such people can it? Whole idea is potty imo. |

I understand what you are all saying and for experienced punters it makes perfect sense. The trouble is that experienced punters are in the minority on course and if they see 5.0 on a board they will expect 5/1 to their money. A lot of the people we have to deal with throughout the summer are argumentative aggressive and short tempered & I can see fighting on the racecourse if decimal odds including stakes were ever introduced.

I'll bow to your experience wasnot - I just can't see the sense in creating another type of odds to sit alongside fractional, decimal (with stake), american, etc etc...

Why should 99.9% of racegoers have to change for the sake of the 0.1% retards who do not know the difference between 11/10 and 6/5.

This is just the bookies doing their best to ensure no change. They want this to fail.
On a plus side Ascot have has 14,000 requests for free tickets. That's a massive 13,000 up on last year on the 1000 paying customers last year. At least the four bookies showing 'Imperial Decimals' will be confusing bloody everyone. |

Forget Racing For Change, or opinion polls. At the end of the day if the off-course want it (if it gives them an angle to increase the overround and therefore profits) it will happen. If the off-course dont want it, its a non-starter. Dont forget the levy paid back to racing is linked directly to how much profit the off-course bookies make from racing.
