I think the grey area is between your ears.
Report TiltEngine88 April 27, 2010 11:44 PM BST
I cashier at Hills. We wouldn't accept a place double, only each-way.

how long have you been punting

no grey area
Report booster33 April 27, 2010 11:45 PM BST
not talking about e/w doubles
Report £50@SP April 27, 2010 11:46 PM BST
they take them, but you can only do it if they have priced up the race for place only betting!! ie, you won't get 1/4 odds for the place! the odds will be a lot shorter.
Report TiltEngine88 April 27, 2010 11:46 PM BST
I know you're not, but I did pretty clearly say that we don't take place doubles.

Gotta think about offering an alternative though, ain't I? ;o)

no problem having a place double
as long as you also have a win double with equal or greater stakes
Report booster33 April 27, 2010 11:47 PM BST
name the bookies then!
Report £50@SP April 27, 2010 11:50 PM BST
I used to do this couple of years ago, they will let you do it if they have a specific place betting market for the said race. Ladbrokes definatley accept them but i don't think they actually price many up only the big ones??

They could get you a price though! But i think you'd be looking at around 6/4 for an 8/1 shot in the win market.

lLike i said its a grey area doh

NO bookies tak PLACE only doubles

Simply false!!!
Report booster33 April 27, 2010 11:57 PM BST
So yer could,nt actually go into at shop and have a 16/1 and a 16/1 in say a 2, 20 runner handicaps and have a 4/1 and 4/1 place double and take out 20 including stake, that was my question!

Been gambling 40 years also...wtf

Thanks Guys
Report £50@SP April 27, 2010 11:59 PM BST
you would not get 1/4 odds. I've had enough of this thread!!!
Report hoofer April 28, 2010 12:21 AM BST
You can do single place bet with the nanny goat
Report lukehart April 28, 2010 12:59 AM BST
hoofer yes the tote do take place only bets, the other day a 4/1 chance was 1.1 to be placed sounds great to me,
Report lukehart April 28, 2010 1:00 AM BST
£50SP you place a place only bet simply by taking the win money out of the bet and leaving the place only to run great value in many cases

PP also offer this at whatever cramped odds you like and they'll be licking their lips when they see you coming imo.
Report lukehart April 28, 2010 1:12 AM BST
Rowley Mile. of all the bets that you can operate at present. if you ignore in running @ real time.

Some Each Way Double/trebles/even accers are still the greatest value you can have.

In certain structured races, no more than 8/9 runners, were the betting tilts the place odds out of true proportion,

three in one day can result in a place treble at 3 even 4 times the true odds.

Were sports bets are concerned they can be a relative steal. when the Internet Bookmaker has failed to alter his terms from place odds to win. this happens regularly.
Report Rowley Mile April 28, 2010 1:20 AM BST
My point was that when they offer place only betting with their own odds on any race, they're hardly giving it away, maybe they are ?
Report lukehart April 28, 2010 1:26 AM BST
rowley mile I have seen mistakes made by this firm they are certainly not fool proof.

Some of there bonus,s do not last long.
I think that sometimes they are so busy looking for shock tactics they leave themselves open
But I would have to see the place only odds for my self to make judgement.

Exactly my point, your judgement
Report lukehart April 28, 2010 1:32 AM BST
what makes the place double unattractive in most cases is the 2 bets, win and place,

But once you have taken the win bet out of the way by laying it, (Not difficult)
Then you have a bet that no Bookmaker would offer. (in many cases)

Tried a 100e.w. double with Badblokes two second favourites a couple of days ago, about 11/4 and 7/2 - they said they would only take a 100win and 20place double! What a joke. Defies belief!
Report Roger Rover April 28, 2010 4:45 AM BST
If you know the place code of your regular Hills shop you can get place doubles
