Its not that he is bad because sometimes he lokks exceptional. Its his lack of consistency which lets him down. The best jockeys have consistency and positioning as 2 of their strong points. Spencer unfortunately has neither

Outstanding jock, shame the pocket talkers are so quick to criticise

Nimue was hanging all the way up the straight yesterday....practically unrideable. I'd say he's a better jockey then you are a judge.

Ralph no problems with the horse being a dog , but at least give it a chance

dunc no one saying it wasn't hanging and wouldn't win .......................but the fact he dropped his hands and nearly ( and should have ) lost 2 nd is the moaning point on that ride.

I dont disagree the horse was hanging but when you want to give a horse that is not stoppping 6l start you need to be something special. You are not telling me that every horse he rides needs to be held up so whydoes he hold up 90% of his rides.
Take a look at Mark Johnston horses. The remit there is to let their horses stride on without exertion and if something wants to go faster let them go. But they have so many winners from the front and dont have too many hard luck stories. On the other hand, Spencer gets into more trouble than his brother Frank because he wants to hold everything up and come through horses looking brilliant when it comes off. Unfortunately too often it doersnt

why if you have an opinion on a jockey here, your always talking through your pocket.... spencer very good on horses that have to be held up. but also can be very ordinary.......... should have had a long look at himself when he lost the job with ballydoyle

in my opinion , spencer s positioning and awareness in a race sometimes lets him down ...thats why hes not the best.....but the thread title holds no water ....you cant take his record away from him .......but i do wish everyone would stop saying pockets talking .....its a bit like swearing ......when someone cant give a reasonable addition to the debate they will resort to it

Wrong Frank.

Frankie McDonald is particularly poor.

No idea of pace. No idea where to position a beast and no confidence.

But this is a man who has been champion jockey and had the top job in racing, ie Coolmore. So for gods sake why does he spend half of his time looking like a 7lb claimer
