As the Racing For Change week is here can we all please make a concerted effort to stick to proper EW terms, dress smartly, be polite and approachable and make the betting ring a place that people want to come back to?
There are going to be a lot of newcomers attending racecourses for the first time this week and it offers and ideal opportunity to show people what a good fun day out racing is and then hopefully they will want to come back.
Think long term of the future of all of our businesses during this unique week.
Also on my wish list is to see a real live Dodo and frankly I think I've more chance of that one coming true.
The world is full of arbers i tell theeee, we are all doomed, fffs its bookies jargon for punters with brains ( i dont blame them for not wanting to play with certain punters, i wouldnt either) but this arber nonsense is just that NONSENSE!!!

hi jimnast, amazing how they are making such a big deal out of it,only 3 books at one track,i also understand that the books have agreed to do it to show how futile it is although no doubt the punters comments in the media will be hand picked.

personnally speaking i think after this week it will just revert to normal ..congratulations to people who show ideas and iniatative and i hope it sincerley works for you ,well done to goodwood and ascot but when theses new folk see the price of a burger and a bottle of water im sure that will have a lasting effect in the way there there pocket thinks....well done to huntingdon because they seem to be trying harder in the last 12 months than previously ,also the same goes out to nottingham who only charge a tenner to get in and now there opening there gates for free ,the other 40 odd tracks should hold there heads in shame ....good luck guys to one and all

it must be hard you bookies to make a living these days. everytime i go racing, even if there seems a decent crowd, hardly anyone seems to be betting in the ring.there seems to be more action at a couple of point to points ive attended tho some right jokers turn up there to bet.

Jimnast.wasnot, ribero et al...as a matter of interest, how many figures can these new boards show? If it"s 11/8,can they show 1.375,or will we be treated to a bit "over the odds",and get 7/5?!

For the "trial" the odds will be displayed to two decimal places and will be decimal equivalents of fractional odds e.g 1.38 instead of 11/8 and 0.73 for 8/11.

Hope this isnt going to end up a farse, was at Doncaster earlier this year when they announced any one wanting free tickets to go to the office and fill out a form, which i did and was given two tickets, the post has just arrived and low and behold two tickets have arrived.Repeat this with everyone else that did the sameand theres going to be an awful lot of us out there with four tickets instead of two,i have visions of this decending into chaos

Do the electronic boards have the capability to display digital odds correctly just now or are we going to have fun with punters claiming it was 33/1 when I bet it not 3.3 (I would'nt have bet it at that price )

Simple question, why do bookmakers keep saying decimal odds are nonsense when the computer operator oncourse has one eye on his/her DECIMAL SCREEN and relays that that the 6/4 fav. is 2.6 on the exchange.

So the new decimal odds are going to be 1.38 for 11/8 and not 2.38 ? Isn't that making everything more confusing when comparing to say the tote dividend or exchange prices ?

I really don't think the bookies can do it.They are so used to been greedy. All they know is poor value which any idiot could give.If the on course game was heads and tails they would be laying 4/6 heads 4/6 tails. This is how greedy they are and they are still kicking themselves for losing ''their'' punters to the machine .If they hadnt been so greedy maybe I would not be writing this now.I say they will feel due to greed and unable to have the skill to lay a book.

what people forget is that a lot of punters who go racing dont understand the present odds nevermind decimal odds,i had a guy on saturday calling me a robbing so and so as he got 7/2 a 5/2 shot as he thought it was 4s as that was the number of the horse.the sooner this idea gets binned the better.

What a load of rubbish replies,as expected. Why are you all forgetting the flexibility of decimal odds instead of citing one-off poor examples. What is wrong with offering 4.1 a 4/1 chance to beat the competition, that's not complex or confusing. So you don't have decimal odds on your laptops showing exchange prices? To use your examples ,new punters don't know which is better 100/30 or 7/2,,however they WILL KNOW that 3.5 is bigger than 3.3

unbiased,if you dont like the prices dont have a bet, plenty of books go 5/2 when its 3.4 on here etc so it works both ways, all these silly decimals may work well on here but people forget the practical side of it,can you imagine all the change you would need and the time it would take on a busy saturday? typical logic fron people stuck behind a computer all day, anyhow no point arguing as i would never use them unless forced, incidentally are many on here who support it rushing to ascot to bet with these 3 bookmakers?

Ribero, have bookmakers ever done anything they weren't FORCED to do.Meanwhile you didn't say whether it was easier for new punters to understand the diff. between 100/30 and 7/2 compared with 3.3 and 3.5. .Instead you had yet another swipe at the exchanges.

you cant stop change,no betfair on course, no computers, no boards on rails, no more tote outlets, make no mistake it will happen and those that get in first could make the most, if this experiment is a success then why not

I don't know about it being a massive crowd at Sedgefield tomorrow night but has anyone got their letters yet ? None of my daughters mates have received their letters. Don't they realise that sending them out last minute is no good, but there again I am talking about Sedgefield & the crowd running the place.I suppose we shouldn't expect any better,we should just learn to accept their style of management. When the announcements concerning the Miss Durham contest are more important than late withdrawels etc.well what chance does the racing have?

You've got to laugh. Day after day we hear about how "them bookies" should bet to traditional EW terms or put up Win Only, now it seems that betting 1/7th the odds is better than betting to proper odds and win only. Make your minds up fellas!

If I was betting on course @ some of these meetings I would take the Eway problem and turn it on its head. Why hasn't at least ONE bookmaker thought out of the box - BET PLACE ONLY - I would (necessity is the mother of invention) THINK ABOUT IT LADS

Completely diff day, you had new people who didnt have a clue, your "new" punters, i see the look of bewilderment on there faces when they asked for ew, to be told win only, so off they went to the tote.**ers.

Mike - Towcester always free & punters were in the main the same old faces. I've got plenty of regular punters there who like a proper bet & wouldnt be too happy at me putting up everything bar the front two at half price in order to accomodate the £1 EW punters at 1/5th odds.
Everyone who asked me for an EW bet was given an explanation and pointed in the direction of adge. The other meetings this week I agree more with you, not Towcester. Hopefully the other courses will be adle to stage more competitive racing. Big odds ons are not a good advert for the product to newcomers.

When you go to chantilly you pay 3euros to watch their Derby- dont need to book a table in a fabulous restaurnt- get free champers as you walk in - then tuck into a 4 course meal for 25 euros. Trouble is the old enemys not there. British racing is the best in the world- we have the best horses best racecourses BUT WE GET RIPPED OFF EVERYTIME. I don't blame the bookmakers I BLAME THE COURSE EXECUTIVES.

Racing For Change? It's about time they changed some of the management at the courses. My daughter applied the middle of last week for tickets at Sedgefield tonight along with quite a few of her mates. Her post has been,no tickets & up to last night none of her mates had tickets. That's good publicity for the game isn't it?

on the first day out a bookie using the old clerking book started off taking every bet that was called,
A tick went up to him and asked for a 100 to 8 a horse and after the race when the tick tack offered his the £8
He said
"You had a £100 @ 8.
The lad said what a 12/1 chance He was told by the bookmaker next door that he was wrong the bet actually was only £8.
So how land will it be that some unscrupulous person gains an advantage.
