I think initial reaction was a bit of dissapointment.Until they realised mercer was carrying around 8lbs more due to a suede jackete he was wearing got soaked in the rain.Think both his compatriots in the gallop Coliseum (i think was 1) cant recall other both won on seasonal debuts prior to Brigadiers GNS |

Nashwan had only won a listed race at 2, on the face of it, nothing like good enough to win the guineas fto, but the Major knew what he had ;-)

geoff m - yeah your right, they weren't that impressed until Mercer weighed
that suede jkt which got soaked and then the other horses winning...... if I remember right one of them was an older horse and the amount of calculated weight difference started to make that gallop look very good. |
