Having backed Zabeel Palace last night, the jury is out for me. Read the other thread about last night's race - lets be clear, the horse was once rated in the late 80s/90s on the flat and rattled up 4 wins over hurdles, beating the likes of Oldrik and ending up with a rating in the last 120s.
Last night, I thought the race looked very winnable and at what I considered to be a fair price (took 4s), I was good to go.
What insued was the kind of drift a Geordie canoeist would be proud of and a finishing position which reads beaten 28 lengths.
Now I've read Carney's biography and love the tails of famous gambles from days of old and admire the charity work he does in Africa.
However, this has all become beyond a joke now - this is not on.
As others have advised, I will gladly leave any race with one of his runners alone from now on.

As for the smiley for the comment on Luke and Mac, they may be under achievers and not the best at what they did/do, but as far as I am aware, they didn't rob any punter through dishonesty. Having an opinion/beng crap does not account for honesty and a will to try your best.

luke by his own admission didnt have the talent to be a top jockey
talbot - I think you need to do a little bit more research into Big Mac's history, before you post any further.

So by virtue of the fact that a Classic/Championship race win is recognised as a measure of true success, does that make Barney an under achiever and thus, no better than Luke/Mac?

talbot - it is common knowledge that McCririck was a failed bookmaker who failed to pay PLENTY of people. Does that make him a saint?

Speaks his mind - fair enough, but by virtue of what I have stated, he too has massively under achieved in his training career relative to its length and the amount of money he has invested in bloodstock over the years.

To consistently be shrouded in a cloud of uncertainty, possibly construed as hishonesty to his indigineous people who work hard, pay their money but to have not even bought a ticket for the raffle is not on.

When you got involved in racing, you knew the risks. You decided to forgive the horse's last run as you know how the game works. You love the fact that it isn't always straight so you can crow about your "clever" winners. Unlucky this time, get over it.
And i'm exactly the same. Let's face it, we are all addicted to being smart arses and nobody in the real world cares so we come on here.

Stick to that and you won't go far wrong with Barney.
Yes, you might have to take a slightly shorter price about the " Triers " but you won't need to start threads like these.

depends if you think it is an achievement paying to fill a yard with horses, paying to run the yard year upon year and to consistantly make it pay from gambling? Any one else been able to do it in the modern era? get yourself a few million and try it yourself and see how long you last. you can win as much on a class 6 handicap on the aw as you can the derby and i know which one is easier to win. the druids lodge confederates targetted handicaps for a reason.

i personally love barney curley, he has made me fortunes over the years and it will be sad day when he does finish up! if one of his is backed it generally wins if not it always loses so how can anyone call him dishonest to punters he is a punters dream in my opinion! all you have to do is wait till 5 mins before the off and back accordingly!
