Seen a lot of comments on here about what a great ride he gave it in terms of persistence, etc, but clearly from an early stage he was wanting to jump out to his left.

Why did McCoy not take it to the inside rail so the horse couldn't jump left, and was blocked from doing so by the other runners? I'm pretty sure this is standard practice to force a horse not to jump and lug sideways, yet McCoy gave the horse every opportunity to go as wide as he wanted and then keep fighting to get him back again.

He obviously had a torrid time & it looked as tho something was clearly wrong and was surprised he persisted so long & not pulled up.
However the biggest shock came up the straigh as mcCoy chose to hit Denman continually with his whip in his right hand all the way up the straight after hanging violently & jumping left all the way seemed a bizzare choice.

If a horse wants to hang left there is nothing that any jockey could do to stop it... FACT...

It would be stretching it to suggest/think the Denman of last 3 runs has been the same Denman as when winning the gold cup,

AP or no AP !

i'd say that up the straight when you're needing your horse to be going forward as best he can for the last bit of the race, the business of trying to straighten him up had been finished with in as much as the finishing effort would be compromised as you are going against the horses grain as you're trying to correct him which would surely compromise the horses momentum .....he probably thought ....right....going forward as best he can even sideways is better than him going forward slower as i'm trying to fight against him....earlier in the race he can attempt it...but when the finishing effort is called upon, he's better off letting the horse be....

as for going onto the inside earlier.....looked impossible to be able to do it, and in any case, he would have caused accidents as it would surely have impeded other runners on its subsequent outside.

Most horses have a favorite way they like going either left or right handed fact, Denman does not like going right handed... pocket talking i guess.. if you would of done your homework you would of known that... :)

Will be interesting to put Sam back on him... not to criticise McCoy, but feel he does not get on with the horse.

Sam is proven on him... I think connection are too stubborn to admit its worth putting him back on.

Again some strange statements here. I thought the idea with betting was to find out what best suited a horse and what weight it should carry. Then when everything is in place you back accordingly. Yesterday we found out that Denman cannot race right handed. We also found out that had he gone left handed he would have hosed up. The ride AP gave it was totally outstanding and I defy anyone who knows anything about race riding to say otherwise. And to think the three horses that beat Denman yesterday are horses no-one could back at any time this year with any confidence whatsoever and I, for one, would be happy to take then on again with Denman going the other way round. They are racehorses ffs.
What I hate, as a punter, is when a horse I like gets beaten and there appears to be no reason why, that's a problem.

I had my say yesterday. I thought AP has made Denman a lesser horse with his style of ridng him. Bt all you get on here is Pocket Talk Pocket Talk. There is more to racing than betting. Some people actually like racing fo what it is, Horses Racing. :)

Scop6winner, you would be right 80% of the time, but can be strightend with a threat or a slap with a wipe, Race horse's like most animals have a mind of there own, and can weigh up who's dealing with them and when they can take the P**s.

So when a horse drifts to the left the accepted way to ride is hit it with the the whip in the right hand.?

Just watched it again,

horse was not happy from the off,

we don't know how he travelled over etc, just another dimension to add to the many other theories put before this won.

I`m sure they ( HF ) said he would never run right-handed two or three years ago.
But they ran him at Kempton last season. He didn`t run very well but you could argue he needed the race and there weren`t any obvious alternatives. Don`t remember him jumping significantly to the left though.
