yes, trainers who are laying them will race them at home before going to the track
By:
They are not allowed to any more - not sure when the rule changed, unless the other race was a walkover.

MANY TIMES. After the second world war a horse won two point-to-points RUNNING (neither was a walk over).
A few years ago I put the record up on here. Again: On May 13 1761, Cadobra, Bold Barton and Stella all ran six times in a day at Carlisle. The race was in two mile heats, so they each covered 12 miles. As usual, a horse had to win two of the heats to collect the prize. Three heats were run, with a dead-heat in the third between Cadobora and Heart Of Oak, so a fourth had to be run. There were now three clear winners who ran off for the £50, but Cadobora and Bold Barton dead-heated, so a sixth heat was required, won by Dr. Dunn's Cadobora. |

Here in the north of Germany we have racing on the beach, like at Laytown, and last year I backed a winner of one of the last races, not realising that it had been third just two hours earlier. I don´t think I would have backed it if I´d known.

great stuff wizard...great story

YW. By the way, horses can still run twice in a day in point-to-points, provided they get the permission of the stewards. It usually only happens when someone unseats or falls early in a race, or tnp.

did a horse not run twice on the same card at wolverhampton one saturday night about 9/10 years back?
By:
I did it thanks. God, I was out whacked :-)
By:
I"m certain David Evans did it a few years back, could have been an early race at somewhere like Nottingham, then a late evening race at Wolves?
By:
Looked up Chaplins Club on the RP, couldn't see two results for the same day but may have missed it as he'd run in 79 races in total, several were the day after the other and seemed to win two in a row on a few occasions
By:
Mel Britain did it def about mid '80's cant remember the name of the horse

I"m certain David Evans did it a few years back, could have been an early race at somewhere like Nottingham, then a late evening race at Wolves? The horse was called Panther, but after a load of negative publicity and some stern-sounding quotes from the RSPCA in the paper that morning, he pulled it out of one of the races. I think it's banned now. |

my mistake just checked Racehorses of 1999, it was Amington Girl 22nd May 199, hammered 33 lengths in the 9.00 at Wolver after being beaten 8+ lengths in the 7 oclock......

There was a chaser declared in two consecutive NH races in error in the 80's and rather than pay a late withdraw penalty the trainer ran it in both. Unsurprisingly it pulled up in the second race early on and I seem to remember the trainer got a rather big fine handed down further down the line.
