Where do you suppose he puts his bets on?

Looking at todays tip I doubt it's on here.

We (as punters) bet to (we hope) make money and put tips up (in the hope) to show ourselves to be shrewd,

why would someone who gets paid to put tips up (and therefore show themselves to be shrewd) risk any money when they don't have to ?!

Well that's always a suspecion when one is well out of line with true odds but end of the day, like I said before, if you are making a living out of it without the need to risk money, then you are already there !

I agree but who wastes an opprtunity to make a daily guranteed profit? I know I wouldn't unless it was in my contract not to do so. Maybe that's it cos there was only a few pounds traded on here and the bookies must run scared of him.

Contract or no contract, there is always a way to get round that, it's like saying owners are not allowed to lay their own horses, it's not as if they can't tell their nearest and dearest to lay it !

Today's price 20/1, vanished like the wind.
By:

But where could you get on at 20/1 and for how much? It was only for a few quid on here, not worth bothering about. If it was nearest and dearest, they'd have to be opening new accounts weekly! Can only think it's cash in pocket job wandering the country, if at all.

If today's horse wins it seems a dreadful fraud to claim it in his results/profits.

won't be the first time Artie. The guy is miles behind at SP I believe.
By:

Not fraud on his part imo,

if the price is advertised but then not layed by the books concerned, surely the fault is with the bookmakers and how they run their operations ?!

its inresting if you layed all of the tips 10-15min after they were put up after the lemmings put there hard earned on em what the p/l would be.and the the other way round l/p backing em 10 min after.anyone done this before thought would be intresting to know.

To recommend a price that is only available with one small bookmaker( 3.65), and then claim it in the results/profits, seems dishonest to me.Presumably HT is aware that hardly anyone will get on.

I don't see Taylor can do anything about it.

Bookmaker marks up 20-1. Hugh says 'that's value' - bookmaker halves odds.

How's Hugh to blame? How can he be accused of fraud?

Does pricewise show profit/loss from SP or fantasy island?

How does Tom S account for his profit/loss, SP or fantasy island?

The other side of the Hugh Taylor, Tom Segal coin is that you could argue that two of the very best form analyists in the country are telling the bookmakers where they have made pricing errors, and then giving them a ready made excuse not to lay those mistakes.

Punters, even the followers, would be better off if neither existed, imo...

Is Hugh not aware that the vast majority reading his column will not get on at his price , no matter how quick they are ?
By:

When: 20 Apr 10 12:38
It's not going to be SP is it? The column is called Pricewise. He's looking for horses that are advertised at bigger prices than they should be.

What layers do to the price after he has tipped a horse is out of his control

What do you suggest Hugh does about it?

Bookmakers don't have to price up early

If they choose to do so, they should maybe be prepared to take more of a hit on TS and HT horses
By:

" What do you suggest Hugh does about it ?" I suggest he only gives horses where the price he wants is available with at least five bookmakers.
By:

And for Tom as well?

5-Price Wise?

I think you are blaming the wrong people here

So tell me ,what is the point in recommending prices that are not generally available ?
By:

When: 20 Apr 10 13:11
There is none, other than an academic exercise.

There is no point pricing up races either if you are not prepared to stand a bet.

As far as I am aware, Taylor's remit is to deliver the names of horses that are, at the time of publication, overpriced. IN HIS OPINION.

That's his job.

no point its to get everyone sucked in thinking they can win these made up profits lay em 10-15 after long term must work can fail an if it does fail the books are making people win init
By:

When: 20 Apr 10 13:16
But we all KNOW bookies won't stand a bet, that's the real world, and presumably so does Hugh, but he could give his readers half a chance by doing what I suggested and show a bit more honesty by not claiming profits that in the real world nobody made.

So going back to the original question, how does he get his bets on at his advertised odds?
By:

i would think before the tips go out ! then the option of laying back if he has so wishes.

He works for ATR and they don't charge you for his service.

If you want a better chance of getting on, you'll have to join a service with fewer subscribers

I think you're expecting a lot for not much at all

Maybe he doesn't,but more likely he has a private arrangement with an Independent bookie who values his skill.

No ODI, I'm simply expecting a bit more.honesty in the profits/results.

Personally I don't back his tips but always keep an eye on them. He is the only one (and maybe a selected few unlike pwise) who knows the selections before he posts them at half ten or whatever. Are you telling me he doesn't get on somewhere? I know how hard it is to get on at most places for a decent amount unless there's liquidity on here. This morning there was none before the price was more like 12's than 20's.

I lay quite a few of Hugh's horses. Not because I think he's a bad judge - he isn't - but because the price is nothing like the one that he recommended

Works for me. Try it.

Millhouse has it more or less right.

Hugh and Tom basically are a great benefit to bookmakers profits, the over round for any race they tip in goes up to the detriment of the average punter, the horses in question are nigh on impossible to back at the suggested odds.

Apart from punter arbers i cant see who they are effectively for.

The non lemming punter has to sit and suffer if there prospect wager is selected,on occasion as odee suggests a lay presents itself.

I don't think either Tom or Hugh are part of the backit-tipit-layit brigade, but they should clearly set a minmum price for their selections.

At the momement if we had hughtylr extra and pwise extra extra and trdng post extra extra, then the over rounds would reach Grand National proportions.

Its a sad state of affairs where a website tipster or rac post tipster is actually good for bookmakers profits not punters the more winners they tip.

thats the thing if that wins at best price his followers got was say 12-1 thats 8 points difference off his followers bank so he claims 20 backers get 12 thats quite a big difference
