I can only think of:
Monets Garden - days are surely coming to an end. (13 next season)
Money Trix - trainer never runs him (11 next season)
Noble Alan - disappointed at Aintree. Looks like he will be more of a handicapper rather than a top notch horse.
Any others I've missed. It is a real shame because I always thought Richards was the best trainer in the north. He seems however reluctant to run his horses more than 3 times a season and even more reluctant to send them down south. D McCain has shown that northern trainers can still be successful.

hasn't had much ammo in recent years but when my mate collared him at wetherby (in a drunken stupor) and asked him about some of his horses he was one of the nicest blokes you could wish to meet. Spoke with him for a good while (he did say grand about four times though!)

He is a nice bloke, just not the best communicator. It's not that he's reluctant to run them but rather he couldn't even work them for a month due to snow this winter. He is also an old fashioned trainer, in that he gives young horses time to mature. He has his faults too, some of the gallops are a bit in need of modernisation.
He's also been unlucky in having a few like The Whisperer that could have become very good but were injury prone. And lost a couple like Grand Theatre as it was about to start to show its real value. He has a fair few young horses who will take time but it's fair to say these are difficult days at Greystoke. I hope there are some good 'uns in that crop as the North needs more competitive racing, much as I admire McCain. |

mate had a couple of horses with richards - never updates on how the horses are - says they have a bit of swelling here and there . Seems to be a lazy c...ut who is not interested

a friend of mine who isnt short of a few quid bought his wife a half share in her first of what may have been several horses with him,they were lucky enough to drop on one half decent,he was placed first time up in a bumper at aintree then proceeded to easily win a bumper at carlisle,they very much took a backseat in running plans etc,the horse ran once the next season easily winning his novice hurdle with richards telling them the horse was slightly fragile and needed looking after,he may have been right but for his next appearance the following season he managed to find a 23 runner handicap hurdle at ayr in december for his first outing for which he admittedly looked decently handicapped ridden by a 7ilb claimer with dobbin on his other entry,unfortunately in such a big field a horse clipped heels resulting in 2 horses being brought down,one of them being sobraon who had to be put down from his injuries,dobbin won the race on his other runner.

When I was last there they had a lot of young horses based out in Northumberland. I really hope they get some decent horses through soon because even the loyal owners won't be patient forever.

indeed gt,as i said they took a backseat as my friend has no big interest in horse racing,it was just to keep the wife happy,but in 3 outings over 2 seasons the horse hadnt put a foot wrong and for a trainer like richards who does seem to wrap his horses in cotton wool somewhat it seemed an incredible choice of race for his seasonal debut for such a promising horse especially putting a 7lb claimer up.

Ribero as you are probably aware I know Nicky better than most and he is a good trainer who does the best he can for his owners with the animals he has got, at the mioment he is short of both numbers and quality but it is only a matter of time before he gets back to relative big time. His dad is a hard act to follow.

As I have said I like the stable and have been fortunate to visit a few times and know a couple of the lads. Do they still have the Northumberland storage yard and are there some young ones coming through? The likes of Steady Tiger and The Whisperer must have driven Nicky to distraction. May was always his dad's month for bringing the youngsters on, hopefully there's more to come from Greystoke. |

No he isn't, and no he doesn't. Owning a horse in his yard when your name wasn't Hemmings or Davidson did you no favours. He is clueless when it comes to placing, and doesn't listen to any outside advice. Ask Briggsy why he took his last ever horse away from him and gave it to Swinbank - you'd change your mind about him. |

What about Chapel Flowers...couldn't buy a race with Nicky.....goes to the Vaughan yard and wins 3 and places every time.The horse just needed to be placed and ridden to suit..Nicky didn't seem to have a clue how to do this.

I was always suspicious when Dobbin used to pull up horses that seemed to going fine. Not sure why you would train a horse, take it to the course then pull it up after a few furlongs. Used to watch them next time out as they always went off a good price with a P in the form.
