Denis O'Regan and Howard Johnson split
THE partnership between Denis O'Regan and Howard Johnson has come to an end, with the trainer revealing on Sunday that O'Regan's retainer with his main patron, Graham Wylie, will not be renewed.
O'Regan was given a three-year contract by Wylie in 2007, but the owner does not intend to retain a jockey any longer.
Johnson informed O'Regan of thedecision on Saturday evening, and told the Racing Post: "There is no bad blood between me and Denis, and I wish him the best of luck, but Mr Wylie is not going to retain a jockey any more.
"I will use the best available jockey at Hexham and Perth this week, and Brian Hughes, Wilson Renwick and Ryan Mania will be riding for me."
O'Regan, who replaced Paddy Brennan as Johnson and Wylie's number one, has won the Ladbrokes World Hurdle on Inglis Drever and Irish Independent Arkle Trophy on Tidal Bay for them, and last weekend finished runner-up on the Dessie Hughes-trained Black Apalachi in the John Smith's Grand National.

I've stood behind JHJ and his wife publically**ging off their jockey, at an away meeting, while watching a tv screen at Cheltenham - personally I find them deeply unpleasant people.
I gather he pays his staff well and he's obviously a good trainer but, to me, WAC ! |

to be fair, he lied to them about his weight and purposefully weighed out without his body protector so he could make the weight at cheltenham- he deserves the sack.

Possibly true. However HJ is not a good trainer, not a nice bloke and this will continue I think.

Why would the owner tell the stable jockey he's not going to be stable jockey? Wylie is a nice bloke anyone who says otherwise is either jealous or ignorant

Poor Denis, hope he gets a good job soon, JHJ seems to change his jockey's every few years, very very sad JHJ got burgled, sounds like burgler's may have had inside knowledge, something far wrong.

Why would the owner tell the stable jockey he's not going to be stable jockey? Why indeed? But the fact is that Denis's contract was with Graham Wylie, and Graham Wylie decided not to retain Denis's services. I think it is reasonable to expect him to have notified Denis, irrespective of any follow on consequences that might have had for his position at JHJ's yard. |

Live in County D and can confirm not many folk with agood word on the trainer.
Brennan did not suffer that badly given season he had just had. Surprised Wylie does not spread his net a bit further and use other stables.God knows what he would achieved if he had his horses with Nicholls/Henderson etc |

The overweight issue is nothing, its 3lbs not 1 stone it is not going to bother the horse.
O'Regan is an excellent jockey and will benefit from getting the chop |

Paddy was too big for JHJ's horses said Howard when he got the push.
That was the most ludicrous 'reason' ever! As Denis demonstrates. |

Wylie is like so many successful businessman. Having succeeded in one business big-time, he feels he can do it again in another sphere, simply by applying the same principles as he did when running his previous business (Sage Software?). Never works because the trainer knows when he's on to a good thing and won't tell the owner that many of his horses are duff. Much easier to blame the jockey.
Neither Paddy Brennan, or before him Graham Lee, have exactly suffered and O'Regan won't either. |

Dennis has ridden a couple for me and I like him, straight talking, listens and does what you ask........HJ, very unpleasant individual.
