A few of us thinking of heading over this summer. anyone been? whats best way to go? expensive? is morny best days racing?

Morny, Jacques Le Marois, big fillies 1m race, Jean-Romanet - all good solid Group 1's.
Not been myself but heard it's a good trip and a great meet, might be worth going for a week or so as they race maybe 4 or 5 days out of the week and time for other stuff too. |

Price the accommodation, and restaurants, before yo go, jak.
The whole of France shuts down for August holidays, and many of the 'Paris set' traditionally holiday at Deauville - Top rates for everything everywhere, you would imagine. |

Went last July - Dettori won on Donativum. It was free to get in during July. There was some sort of promotion but not many turned up.
Pleasant area around the paddock, basic facilities, good view. There are 2 courses so make sure you know which one they are racing at on the day you go ! |

Can get a ferry Newhaven to Dieppe and then take a train or drive from Dieppe to Deauville. Crossing is 4 hours.
Did Dieppe for the Grand Steeplechase De Dieppe last September and the place isn't great - probably easier and simpler ways such as the Channel Tunnel or flights to Paris-Orly (Southern Paris) and then hiring a car. |

jack, was over in Brittany on holiday and then drove over to Hornfleur for the week end. Hornfleur is about 15 miles from Deauville. Caught the ferry back from Caen to Portsmouth.

difficult to get accomodation so stay in caen or honfleur good restaurants in trouville-over bridge from deauville pont leveque is great about 15 miles away |

Deauvilles lovely... Great racing, easy access and entry fees are cheap... Fly to Dinard takes about 2 1/2 hrs to drive across... Or ferrys to either Caen or Le Harve both from Portsmouth, Deauvilles about the same distance from either one...

Journey is a mild pain however you go
Racecourse is terrific - good facilities, friendly atmosphere Town is expensive for accommodation and food Went as a family beach hol last year, town more set up for oldies than kids, fortunately my boys like racing and also enjoyed the polo (!) - game most days on the infield, free admission, saw Andre Fabre play! Racing Morny Sunday was terrific - good crowd, sunshine, top class horses, won a few quid. Customer service excellent - everyone got a free sweepstake ticket when they went in, free goodie bag for kids, and my littte lad was made up when his sweep ticket won the claimer and he got a free baseball cap Dad's happiness was slightly blunted by then paying £100+ for pizza for 4, but if you want a classy days racing in a nice atmosphere, and you aren't countin the pennies, then Deauville's unbeatable |

went to a morning and afternoon meeting there in January a few years ago, and it was free admission to both fixtures.
