after the race today thought july cup straight away deffo non stayer imo

ive always thought non stayer regardless of today. but whats worrying aswell is hughesy saying hes got lazy in his work and when he was a 2 yr old he would fly up the gallops. but the way the horse runs looks like he only knows 1 way no chance of staying the guineas trip . ide go as far as saying 5 furlongs is fine

was prepared to give the horse a chance this year as regards him staying further than sprint distances with him been another year older but it looks unlikely on that showing july cup and nunthorpe winner than crying out for a top class sprinter imo

crawford comedian u are pal. but its so blatant the horse is a sprinter but thell persist with a mile . cut in the ground 5 furlongs is ideal for this horse

if dick turpin not in the race he wins by 7 and everyone says he gets the trip no problem, all relative.

and hed be 7/2 for the GNS.

What he does need is a low draw when he runs so he can run against a left hand rail.

Even if Dick Turpin wasn't in the race and meaning he won by 7 lengths wouldn't prove he stays.

Interesting thread. My take on this is that the run was inconclusive in terms of optimum trip. First run of the season so they wernt and didnt get serious with the horse. The horser rang green and lost all concentration once he hit the front. If he keeps straight he wins.

Race ran to suit didn't stay!!

The Golden Jubilee would be ideal, though wouldn't like him drawn too low judging by the way he drifted left yesterday

All depends on what your definition of staying is.

any reason come to light why he hung so badly yesterday,even when Hughies changed his whip hand he was going left?

Sj .When he ran 1st time up on soft ground he ran as straight as a gun barrell. the occassion you would most expect him to hang/drift
@ Ascot he was clear when Hughes bought him over to the stands side rail & in the morny he ran the last couple of furlongs up against the rail.
May well be he hangs because he feels " good to firm ground"
Not sure it would have made any difference but hughsie was slow to respond to him hanging as he hit him with the whip in his right hand a while after hed started to drift to the left.

I'd have to disagree with you there geoff. At Newbury for his maiden it wasn't so noticeable but he did edge left. He wasn't asked for anything near maximum effort to win that race. And I don't think Hughes took him to the rails at Ascot. Just my opinion though.

If he gets an outside draw in the Guineas (if he goes there) I can imagine him causing chaos when asked to quicken.

the meaning of staying is running on over a mile not stoping quite clear this horse will never be running on over a mile, class act with so much speed, must mop up over 5 to 6 furlongs, though hard for 3 year olds

He could well stay a mile, the question is, in what company.

Don't see the mile being a problem at all. He wasn't exactly stopping yesterday, pulling a long way clear of the 3rd. Simply wants cut in the ground. Doubt you'll see good/soft on 2000 day but if it was I think he'd be the only one to stretch the favourite.

Agree with Brownes, only think the ground needs to be good, like to see him drawn low and get a lead, because he could cause the "Odd" bit of traffic problems coming into the dip!!!!
If the ground was fastish, Canford drawn on the outside, Elusive on the rail and they come stands side there could ell be a shock come 2000 day

He'll be a different horse held up for a late run. They're making so much use of him because they simply think he is the best and nothing will get near him. It is however, very hard to jump off at that pace and maintain it for any horse - no matter how good!
Especially as Hughes is one of the best hold up jockeys riding, the horse should be tailor made for him. Dessert this horse at your peril.

Absolutely clear the horse isn't a miler.

Thing is Canford looks absolutely nothing like a sprinter, certainly compared to a horse like Arcano. I wouldn't yet be ruling out him getting the mile solely on the basis of his first try at 7f. If he turns up on May1 st I reckon he might well be the best value in the field. Got a toughie to beat in SNA though.

No doubt he will be able to run to a decent level at a mile, but very hard to imagine that level will be good enough to win the guineas.

Its not that he had the whip in the wrong hand but the fact he hit Canford with the whip in his right hand after hed been drifting left surely his immediate reaction after starting to drift left would be switch whip hands not give him a crack with the whip in the "wrong hand".
