Richard Hannon stated for a while that Canford Cliffs is the best he has trained in 40 years yet it was beaten by a stable companion yesterday. If it was that good why run anything else in the race against it when he could have won this with either of them and won another race with the other one. It just does not make sense to me. Is it likely he has 2 of the best he has trained for 40 years or does this go down as another misguided trainer comment?

speed fig was pretty quick (easily best of the trials so far), could be that Dick Turpin has improved significantly over the winter as the trainer always thought he would.

Horses are not machines.
Hannon was telling the truth so CC's defeat was down to:
a) not being fully wound up
b) not having trained on
c) not staying
d) veering across the track
You will notice that after the race, Hannon still seemed convinced CC is his top Guineas prospect.
The point is that trainers' comments should not be a signal to charge into the ring head-down. There is many a slip ...

Heard him say afterwards that they are trained in different stables.. so sounds like he hadn't galloped them together. Not sure if this is just an excuse, he looked shocked to me over the result though.
ryanwe, these days it is very rare for a stable's good horses to work together, especially in a competitive gallop.

Probably best to take them with a pinch of salt. These comments on Mr Cumani's website stopped me having a larger bet on Forte dei Marmi yesterday.
"Forte Dei Marmi won first time out last year but that was towards the end of May; out earlier this year, hes been pleasing on the gallops but is probably still a little on the burly side to be at his best."

Obviously trainers, jockeys, owners, journalists have biased opinions and ulterior motives. was this a trick question or something.
If CC had stayed on a straight line & not drifted to the far rail it would have won, we wouldnt be having these threads!

Last year before the Dante Fremantle and Black Bear Island were 6/1 jt favs.
Murtagh, after a bot of deliberating - "I can't split them, etc" picks Fremantle, and suddenly it's 4/1 and BBI is 10s. Trainer says he's never worked them together and both have equal chances. They finish first and second, but not in the order the betting suggests.
I suggest you evaluate how the horse is bred, how it looks, how fit it seems, what price it is, jockey bookings a little, it's entries for the year in terms of priorities, the stable form, ignore the trainer who is probably drunk most of the time with the lads doing the work, and bet accordingly.
