I will never forget backing a 2/9 'certainty' at Newbury back in 1970, it was appropriatly called 'Young and Foolish'. I went with a bunch of mates and we all decided to buy some money on this good thing. It was beaten by a 14/1 shot having its 1st race, Bridadier Gerard was its name! Hows yer luck?
Report ilikewavingatbuses April 17, 2010 12:30 PM BST

That's Soooo last millenium Driver!
Report driver2 April 17, 2010 12:37 PM BST
It didn't actually end there. Whilst working for Billy hills Blackfriars, the same year, I became legend for having a £100 double. The 1st to get beat was a 2/9 shot called Fireside Chat ridden by the great Lester, guess who was having his 1st race! None other than Mill Reef. It made me feel a bit better when the other one got beat as well. Don't talk to me about certainties!

Report ilikewavingatbuses April 17, 2010 12:46 PM BST
i do back unraced horses tho!!funky lady yest but that was only cos of hannons 2yr olds and he said this was working especially well so... had an insurebet 3 places if im honest at evens so less risky!!but yeah unraced maidens v dodge!!
Report driver2 April 17, 2010 12:51 PM BST
Having said all that, I do think that Tenessee will want the beating, but just in case there is a special one lurking amongst those that haven't raced, I'm going to lay the 2nd fav, which hopefully is the safer bet. I'm laughing while I'm writing this, because I'm thinking there's no such fùcking thing as a safe bet!
Report brigust1 April 17, 2010 12:53 PM BST
There was a certainty the day after Brigadier Gerard won the Berkshire Stakes at Newbury, when Young and Foolish was 4th, his working companion, considered at the time to at least as good, Colum ran in a maiden the next day. It started at 11/2 and the favourite, trained by John Dunlop, wasn't much. Bolted up, had a good good bet. Happy days.
Report driver2 April 17, 2010 12:54 PM BST
Ilikewavingatbuses, when I was a kid I used to like chucking bricks under buses when they went by my council house. One day one hit the bottom of the bus and it stopped. I ran in doors but unfortunately someone saw me and I got me collar felt and a good hiding from me mum.
