The best way to prepare for this is to to be prepared to be ripped off when going to a racecourse !

agree on water front at many places just want some h2o and £2 is a joke £1 shd be limit. Shd be a question at the pathtic political debate

ok lads this is what you do go to first aid say you feel faint they will sit you down and give you a drink of water works every time.

Sandysboy,that has nothing to do with overcharging.Why should a person have to bring their own water in?Water does not go off,it can be stored for a long period.The customer is not in the wrong for not going to the supermarket,the courses are seriously in the wrong.

At least they let the carer in free of charge if you are with a disabled person and they supply the wheelchairs free of charge also unlike Cheltenham.Top marks to Newmarket in that retrospect.

i think smuggling food to a racecousre is an arrestable offence.

Dont see it as a problem,I go racing every day when there is a meeting in Yorkshire take my own sandwich and water,If you cant do that its no good complaining you know you will be ripped off so why give them the satisfaction,I know we shouldnt have to pay thier inflated prices but its pay up or do without im afraid

invest in a hip flask imo - it'll pay for itself in no time.

The fact that I can bring my own is not the issue.
I used to do lunch at the races but again the feeling of being ripped off for poor quality food ( not all courses are guilty but when you do get a decent meal it is often a problem to find a seat due to many punters buying a cup of tea and studying form until the first race) changed all that.

It doesn't bother me at all and if it did i would just not go racing any more and watch it in the comfort of my own home.

If you are that bothered why no email the racourse at least you being communicating to someone that may be able to do something about it.

whilst on this subject though
at beverley on wednesday the catering van in tatts [ not racecourse caterers ] gave away free everything not sold after the last race.
at least 15 racegoers got free pie and peas , *****and curry sauce etc. so don't knock them all.

Wish i could go racing 200 days of the year. I struggle to do 30 days a year but i do have my own shop and 2 young children.

So; entry fees are too high, food and drink on course too high, on course bookies short prices. What is the point of ever going?

i bought fish and *****in newmarket town centre at £4.40 by time i smuggled them into the track they were cold and i was followed by 38 howling cats

Was a retorical question.

If no one was committed enough to horse racing to go to the track (and incur the relevant costs), THERE WOULD BE NO RACING. Its not really too difficult an equation.

Having said that, the up side to no racing is it may silence some of the parasites on here who pay for nothing other than (possibly) a TV licence and make money from a sport that is paid for by others.

If you cany afford £2 for a bottle of water, dont go out. Get a second job, sounds like you need it.

your right.....dont forget its the track thats charging rent on the kiosks and vans that forces them to charge what they do ,i do pay 70p for chocolate when i can get it for 50p,but if im having a monkey on one or maybe even fifty pounds than if i fancy chocolate the 20p extra doesnt come into it

i went last year and the thai cuury van charged ...i think ...6 quid for rice chicken green curry sauce ,there was a lot of it ,it was fresh ,and it also was delicous .....in the high street id pay 4.50 so i didnt mind paying the extra ............we pay extra for being there and experiencing the delight of the rowley mile not stuck at home ,watching live racing good racing the atmosphere ....i luv it and ill be back at the guineas meting

the on-course caterers will soon tell you how much overheads they have
and they need to charge these prices to make it pay etc. etc......

also the greedy racecourse has this year increased its charges to the caterers.

Which leads to the question-----Why do the courses have to charge the caterers such high rents.The ground is there whether caterers attend or not,so you wonder why the high rents.Insurance would be involved,but the courses are already there.Not like renting premises as a retailer.Needs explaining!

They have the idea that they have to squeeze every last pound out of everybody and everything. Doesnt matter if people/concessions dont come back, so long as we maximise today's profits.

That's why racing is heading for troubled times. They have not invested one pound in the future, just grabbed the here and now.

Some people missing the point about paying a lot extra when they are having bets of a certain amount, Racing is trying to attract new people to the sport and the last time i looked, young people were not actually awash with money.
And dnt start quoting other sports, the primary objective in them isnt having a bet on the outcome.

I went to the Rowley Mile for the first time last year in October, and hated it. It was 1/2 empty but still felt mobbed. I can't imagine what it's like for the Guineas meeting.

I really enjoyed visiting the July course though.

I have never been racing without taking my own booze in. I even bought a coat with big pockets for when I go with the lads and bought the Mrs a big bag for when I go with her. (Holds 8 cans of Breaker)

How some people expect top make money on here is beyond me.

If I wasn't a bookmaker there, I'd never set foot on the Rowley Mile again. Why go there when you could go to York?

This is the real problem. I had a pitch for 3 days last June at the local agricultural show and it cost me almost 6k. Refusing to hike my prices meant it was noon on day 3 before I broke even, with all the profit (what there was of it) coming across the last 1/2 day of trading. I'd imagine this is the same problem faced day in day out by on course outlets.

The courses have no reason to charge caterers high rents.Would be better like the levy,charge a % of profits,and make sure EVERYTHING gets registered so no rip-offs.
They fail to see the picture that they are upsetting racegoers,sad state of affairs.RFC should have addressed this issue months ago,but have done zilch.

this story is replicated at 90 % of british racecourses, which is disturbing, yet , i somehow feel the gravy train of a saturday morning shall not even mutter a word on this subject.and on we go, with the reason s for low attendance,hard at work grabbing all they can, after all, its a competitive world.,

A large % of today's racegoers go to drink. They dont say to their mates "lets go to the races and get some pies down our necks" do they?

Didn't Cheltenham try something with food? Higher admission price but free food once you were in?

Not just racecoures guilty, at any Stately Home, Country Park or Concert, it is the same.
My daughter worked for a guy at Harewood House last year. He was charging huge money for cheaply bought produce but Harewood were raking in far more than he was.
He has given up this year due to too many loss making days.

after full english and 10 cups tea 10.30am, go racing ,return home 7.30pm steak *****2 bottles of wine, who needs any refreshment during day?

Yesterday I asked at the first floor bar for a glass of tap water and got a pint, with ice and served with a friendly smile. I wouldn't expect the same on a busier day, but if you don't ask (politely), you don't get.

Agree poor value especially compared to £6 for a Fosters!

CHELTENHAM did do free food a couple of times but if i remember right it was to celebrate they won race course of the year and it was at least 10 years ago since then, i remember the q's for the free food.

It was when the old stand was there and it rained for most of the day, lovley free burgers and *****

Personally I wouldn't give 6p for a Fosters, talk about sick squid. Rather drink my own urine, the taste and strength would probably compare very well.
