The General Stud Book started in 1793. The Royal Veterinary College only needed to look in the books. |

Eclipse didn't go to stud until late 1770's
First offspring early 1780's - which would not run until mid 1780's at the earliest - Eclipse, himself, did not run until 5 years of age ... Races over much, much, longer distances in those days. Covered mares for many years thereafter - which gets you towards 1793, and the book carried foalings from before that date. |
