Eclipse ran in the early 1770's

The General Stud Book started in 1793.

The Royal Veterinary College only needed to look in the books.

Would that not mean that the book started too late?

Eclipse didn't go to stud until late 1770's

First offspring early 1780's - which would not run until mid 1780's at the earliest - Eclipse, himself, did not run until 5 years of age ... Races over much, much, longer distances in those days.

Covered mares for many years thereafter - which gets you towards 1793, and the book carried foalings from before that date.

Should start a system betting horses with Eclipse in the bloodline. It will provide 80% of all winners.

You might have to bet 80% of all horses in the race though

He only had a 17 month career though.. so might have spread his seed a bit before the records too.
